What are we paying for?

With the tuition increasing every year for Suny Schools, and with budget cuts, classes being cut, where is our money going? When we pay for our classes, is it for the computers, but there is already a technology fee that we pay. Also not all classes require or even use computers. Most of the time, professors require students to bring their own laptops because the computers in classrooms, are either too slow and dont work at all.

Even the board and housing tuitions are extravagant. In my old room, my closet door was falling apart, my towel hanging stand also fell off within the first week. The desks were given to us in two pieces and so when there was too much weight on one side of the desk, the top half fell off from the bottom. And when I asked the RA to fix it, she said they will ask for more money. Luckily my dad is a handy man and he fixed everything. But is that really fair? Am I just paying 5000 dollars per semester, for a dirty old mattress which I have to cover in plastic bed covers in fear of ticks?

Whether or no we go to the gym or not, take classes or not, we are charged an athletic fee. Thats fine, the school does provide a lot of fitness classes. However, the gym itself doesnt have enough machines, half the machines are out of order and broken. No body ever cleans the machines off after use, because most of the time the cleaning, sanitary wipes are not there. I wish, that instead of using our money to contruct new recreation centers which are not necessary, the school spends money on fixing old dorm rooms, not cancelling classes and perhaps fixing the existing recreation centers.
