Family values differ greatly, depending on the culture. My background is Hispanic and I have lived in 2 different Spanish Speaking countries. The respect help for your parents and elders stressed greatly. However, I was born in the U.S. and sometimes when I see today's generation, the way they carry themselves including the way they speak to their parents I feel as though I'm out of place. I would never in my 32 years even think about saying a bad word in front of my parents nor grandparents, if they were alive. I witness on a daily basis, children and teenagers of all ages cursing, screaming and raising their voices to their elders. Treating them with disrespect and giving them attitudes. I wish today's generation knew how hard it is to raise a child with good morals and have them abide by them. Today's generation has no idea how much hard work is involved when raising today's children.
When I came to new york I saw an entire different prospect on family. The people I started to hang out with (non-Hispanic) I feel have very different feelings about their own families. The profanity used and disrespect shown to their parents and even siblings was very uncomfortable. In my life I would never speak to any member of my family like that. And the way people use race to "piss off" their family. I became friends with one girl who said she only dated people of other races just to upset her mother. I was raised not to see color, we are all people. The rest of the world is becoming so bi-racial I don’t see why this country is so far behind. And why do things purposely to upset your parents and be spiteful I don’t understand. My family is always number 1 in my heart and I love unconditionally and will have respect always.
