Working with people mushes various types of people of different races, creeds, religious backgrounds and such together into this whole complex and diverse functioning entity. For example, our department alone had: 3 Muslims, 2 Jews, about 5 Christians, and 2-3 people who practiced voodoo. And, you must get along with each other (or at least tolerate each other) for the sake of getting work done --which is a big part of the fun in my opinion. For example, the "weirdo" type personality might come in the lounge to warm something up that stinks up the whole room. Normally, the "weirdo" type and the "cool guy" type (just for example) probably would have nothing to do with each other outside of work, but in the work environment, they must tolerate each other and their weird quirks.
Things have a way of balancing themselves out though, and eventually everything just "works" and moves along. People know "Karen from HR" has a fucked up attitude, and to avoid her if you could; or that "John" likes to eat things that make his breath stink(like sardines), so keep your distance while speaking to him. When I did desktop tech support, there was this lady who kept an entire shoe collection under her desk at work. She told me (when she caught me staring at them) she likes to change shoes at work sometimes, go figure.
It can be pretty fun to interact with people from different backgrounds and outlooks on life, because while you're learning about a new perspective, you're also learning about yourself in a way. Sometimes these differences and odd quirks can really get on your nerves though, like some guy who apparently thinks its a great idea to keep eating his sardines in the office, and speak with everyone like his breath doesn't smell like shit.
