Real Life vs. The Office

The show The Office is incredibly funny to me, and its crazy how much I've come to like it. I was first introduced to it by a roommate of mine during my freshman year here, and I thought it was a waste of time and a stupid show. But after watching an entire episode (a very good one), and understanding what this really is about, I was hooked form then.

To me, it highlights the typical personalities people encounter at their workplace by exaggerating them through various characters interacting with each other on the show. It was so much fun to watch because I've encoutnered and can relate to many character types and situations shown. You have:

(these are a general descriptions through my personal real-life experiences)

- An old guy: An office "weirdo"(to everyone else anyway) who is disgruntled and out of touch with today's society and typically bashes the differences between today's culture his. (no one really fits this description on the show)

- The pretty girl at the job. (Pam, and Karen)

- The old guy who does... Well no one knows exactly what he does... (definitely Creed)

- A suck up to the boss, who is obvious to EVERYONE ELSE in the damn office but seemingly not the boss (Dwight, although on the show the boss knows)

- A religious, conservative person who is borderline radical... (Angela)

-A prankster at the workplace who loves playing jokes on people (Jim)

- A boss who shouldn't be in his position... I think we've all experienced that one... (Micheal)

etc. etc. I can go on... There are also the type of people who don't really interact much and try to simply do their work an go home (Stanley). The show even depicts awkward office parties that people sometimes cringe at. I love shows that can make fun of reality, but still stay true in their jokes (like Bill Maher). This really made me reminisce on my last job, where all these people where around driving each other crazy... But that's a whole other post in itself.
