my last post!

so this completes my 50 posts yay :)

and i wanted to talk about voyerism: the idea of people watching with no necessary sexual intentions. When in class I first read this, I thought it was a really CREEPY concept, like who stares at other people. But then as we talked more and more about it, I realized we all do it, every single day. For example; I live in Kelly Quad at Stony Brook and we have balconies, so my roomate and I early mornings or late nights on Thursdays and Fridays when we decide to stay in, go out on the balcony and see what other people are upto. Sometimes we see people we know trip over a branch, struggle with the keys, drop things and its actually a lot of fun to watch from far and just laugh at them. One time, when there was a snow storm, my friends and I just sat at our window and watched these 2 boys play in the snow, make a snowman, have a snowball fight.

Many of the times, when you are people watching, its unintentional. Like you are just staring in space and happen to see someone do something embarassing, or something cute. A lot of the times, a group of friends may just sit down at a bench in the park, or the beach and check out girls/guys.

The concept of voyerism was also showed in the T.V. show FRIENDS. The FRIENDS always used to stare from their big window in the city apartment across the street at the ugly naked guy. None of them had any sexual attraction or intention towards the guy but watched him for fun, plain entertainment.

also i didnt know how to export it..because quicktime wasnt able to read it.

guys make better friends than girls!

From past expereince, this is one thing that I have learnt. Girls are always so competitive, in the sense "who looks better? Whose more thin? Who can get that guy? My boyfriend is hotter than yours! My hair is done better!" Guys on the other hand, can care less about these things. They just need "chill" people to hang out with and talk to, at least my guy friends.

Dont get me wrong, as a girl you always need girls that can tell you what to wear on special occassions, be there for you when you need to cry your heart out, and give you make-up and hair tips! :) These are what you may call best friends. But just friends, girls come with a lot of drama. Personally, I dont want to hear about how your nail broke at the gym, or that you got highlights in your hair. This is why, as friends to just chill with I have mostly guys. First of all, they can drink so much more without being annoying! Most girls tend to have a very low tolerance ( or so they pretend ) and then they just act drunk so all the guys could pay attention to them.

Also no matter how much you try, I learnt kickboxing, 2 of my best friends are black belts, but that did not help me when like the 4 of us (girls) were surrounded in a fight between like 15 guys at a club one time. Luckily that time, my brother was at the same party, so him and his friends helped my friends and I out of the circle of death..or so it felt like it. At that time I realized that if it wasnt for my brother and his friends to push the guys fighting out of the way and take us out of the circle, I probably would have come out with black eyes and bruises.

Girls also get jealous very easily, for other friends. In high school, in 11th grade I became close to another cliche, different from the one that I was always in. It wasnt as if that I payed any less attention to my old friends, I just made new ones. Some of my old friends started acting really strange towards me, and in my yearbook even wrote "Chose your friends wisely in college." I listend to her advice and avoided becoming close to a lot girls! I could really live without drama and fights in college. I just want to study, party, have a good time :)

just a random thought

I speak for myself when I say this, but why is it that guys always think that just because a girl talks to them first, it means that they want something with them. I introduce myself to people everytime I go out, doesnt mean I want something to happen with each one of them. I just like to meet new people, but when it comes to a lot of guys they always think there is a reason behind, me coming to them first.Or say if you meet them later on, they always try and make a move. Like no! I dont want that. I just wanted to be friends, or maybe you seemed to be interesting to talk to wherever we happened to meet. Sure I will give you my number, so we can chill again "as friends." But just because you got my phone number doesnt mean you got me.

I went on a bus party to the city one time, and there were these freshmen on the bus. They werent talking to anyone, so I just introduced myself to them, asked them if they were excited and such; small talk, nothing big. One of the boy adds me on facebook in a couple of days, and then asks me if he was going to see me at another party that was coming up. I saw him at the other party, but he didnt even talk to me even when he saw me. So in my head I was like this kid is a facebook creep. Then the first week of summer session he invites me on facebook to a party, so we exchanged numbers and such so he can send me the details of the party. It worked out that I wasnt able to go the party because I got in trouble at home. I told him the whole deal and apologized..that was that. Next week he texts me "Im so tipsy right now, stop getting in trouble, I wish you were here right now <3"

First of all is the "<3" really necessary? I find it really awkward when guys make hearts in texts. Second of all, just by introducing myself to you, mainly because you looked like lost freshmen on the bus, does it imply that I want to get with you?

The oil spill is going to ruin everything!

One of my friends is from Texas and every year she and her family go to a beach near their house. However due to the oil spill this year they havent been able to go once. A summer tradition that had been going on for about like 10-12 years has been broken for them. And they dont know when they would be able to go next.

I was at the beach the other day, and was having such a good time, and thought about how so many people are missing this, all due to the oil spill. I fear if somehow the oil comes to our beaches, what we will do. No one wants to stay at home, inside all day in the summer. Its only these 2 months of summer season you can actually have fun outside in New York. Schools are out, people are just in a more happy mood. Every year at least 3 or 4 times a month I make sure I go to the beach, its just a way of relaxation.

Not only in New York but so many carribbean countries and hawai ( hot spots for vacations ) are so close to the gulf and they will lose so much business if the oil does spread to their waters. I just hope that the mess is cleaned up fast and the waters purified. So people can go to the beach fearless, and enjoy themselves and fish lovers like me can eat fish! :)

I thought fireworks were illegal in new york?

So they are. But New Hampshire, Rhode Island arent that far away from New York. Every year one of my cousin drives up to Rhode Island to get like $600 or $700 worth of fireworks. It's a tradition. He always hosts the 4th of July bbq, and at night he always does like at least half hour to 45 min long worth of fireworks. But there is a reason they are illegal in New York.

Last Year, one of the flames from the fireworks my cousin did, fell on a car and burnt away the paint. Another flame landed on the tent in the backyard and caused a mini fire. Besides the fire hazord, after the fireworks a big mess is always left behind. Last year, a neighbor retired cop complained about how much of a mess his yard had become and how all the other neighbors shouldnt be responsible to clean up the mess after our celebration. My cousin didn't do anything this year, but all my neighbors did. At both ends of my block people were doing firworks. One of them even had guns, into which he loaded the firworks and shot them at all angles. Sometimes, the flames would go towards other peoples houses and luckily the flame went out before it hit anything.

I think its a great thing how people celebrate America's Independence and what better way to do it than firworks that express the joy and happiness that we can live with today, because of our Declaration of Independence. However, I think its just a ritual that can go so wrong especially in compact street areas with wires on top and cars and houses so close by.

when the cat is away the mouse will play

So my friend had a pool party at his place on friday night, because his parents were out of town. The minute I saw his house from outside, I was so afraid to even step inside with my shoes on, because of how perfect his house was. Not only was the house gorgeous from outside, but inside it was decorated so perfectly with what you can tell are expensive paintings, and rugs worth at least 1 grand each. I was in complete awe when I saw the pool, with a slide, cave and diving board. However, as most house parties turn out, this one became pretty wild too.

There were way to many underaged drunk people, who didnt know each other and way too many drunk guys which almost inevitably leads to fights. The guy whose owns the place, his cousin got punched in the face, had a black eye and got his nose crooked. Personally I feel like this always happens, when there is no adult supervision. (BUT who wants that anyways?) When my brother and I decided to throw a house party, we made sure we told our parents, my brother and all his friends are older than 21, so there was a 1:1 ration of legal and underaged drinkers and so no fights, no drama happened. If anything, at least our parents (though not in the house) knew everything that was happening.

My friends cousin had to go back to his parents and lie to them that he got into a fight by standing up to a girl...pathetic. House parties are always fun, and especially when the parents are out. But there should always be people who know how to handle themselves and control minor arguments that turn into big punches. Drunk people never know when to stop talking, and that always makes other people angry and therefore fights....just a story I thought I would share.

This is relevant to our class, because we are always talking about society. And house parties, especially in the summer are very common. However, they are also the most dangerous because most of the time there are too many youths packed under one roof with a lot of weapons. (knifes, forks, easily breakable bottles)

The role of women in movies

What is the role of women in movies? Why in most of the movies are girls always portrayed as the "sex symbol." Most of the movies I watch, whether it be Hollywood or Bollywood ( from India) I never see the real point of girls in many movies. Most of the time, they are just there for sexy scenes or a romantic hint to the movie, which when shown in advertisements just increases the number of people who go to watch the movie.

As we were discussing in class I brought the point about Mission Impossible 2. The main lead girl in the movie, according to me was completely useless in the movie. It could very well have been a guy who went in to the villans camp to spy on him and worked for the agency. However, instead they used a girl who basically just had sex with both the Tom Cruise and the bad guy.

Bollywood movies always used to be very orthodox and not many kissing scenes or sex scenes were seen. But now mostly all movies have kissing scenes, and girls who used to wear saris ( the regional dress of India ) wear bikinis, shorts skirts and cleavage showing tops. A lot of the times, girls just come for a video music in a movie, dance on poles (literally) in front of bad guys and the movie is a hit. I find it really sad that Indian movies are losing touch with their cultures. I really enjoyed watching old movies when our culture was so evident on all the movies and love was when the boy used to go to the girls parents house to propose for marriage.

FIFA IS GLOBALIZATION

So in class couple weeks ago we were talking about what is globalization and what isnt. We were discussing whether or not the FIFA World Cup can be considered globalization or not. Globalization as mentioned before in many posts can be interpreted in a way of different countries and cultures all coming together as one.

The World Cup in my opinion is definitely a form of globalization. In many teams, you have players that are not of that nationality. For example, Mexico may have players that not only originate from Mexico but also from European countries and other South American countries. In this way, many different cultures are inter-mingled and globalization occurs on a very big platform. Everyone all across the world watches the World Cup, soccer being one of the most popular sports in the world.

Also during the games, many different countries, coaches all come together. Before the game starts the national anthem for both the countries is played and both the teams pay respect. I think the ground is a great form of globalization and the mingling of fans, players, coaches all to come together and take part in one event.

Bill Clinton Argument

So another debate that we were having in class today that I found interesting was about the Bill Clinton case. Was he guilty? Was his case blown out of proportion or not? Personally, I feel sure infedality is common these days and I suppose always was. Now days there are more means of people getting caught, and so one really has to be careful :: Bill Clinton, Spitzer, Tiger Woods etc.

Sure what Bill Clinton did was wrong, but thats not what caused his impeachment, (for which he luckily wasnt found guilty, because I think he was one of the greatest presidents of our time). What CLinton was impeached was for lying under oath. This made people think what other things could he have lied about to get his presidential position. This is what made the whole case get blown out of proportion. Some man who represents your country, who claims to be religious, lied while swearing on the bible.

I dont think that people were upset and questioned Clinton's presidency because of his infedality but because of his lying under oath. I beleive this becaue even with Tiger Woods, people made such a big deal about his affairs, but when he came back, his fans still supported him. Similar to Chris Brown. There are many famous people who have been caught in many scandals but most of them have made a recovery

3rd world countries

Ok so today in class we had a somewhat heated discussion on 3rd world countries. Who are they? What makes them 3rd world countries and such. I was born and lived in India for 7.5 years of my life, and even when I go back now I'm not scared to walk around the market places, where you will see many homeless people lying down on the streets or beggars stalking people asking for money. However, when I drive through Wyandanch in Long Island I lock all my doors, roll up my windows and try to go as fast as I can. Even when I am with my brother or dad I'm still nervous about what can happen.

So at the end of the day I decided that its all a matter of perspective. Why are there so many people that think India is a 3rd World Country? It's because when you look in magazines, movies, and such they only show the poor India. Even Slumdog Millionare, they didnt show how the wealthy people lived. Gauranteed that's not what the movie was about, but I'm just giving one example. A lot of people also consider India a 3rd world country because, there is a far greater population than say USA so obviously relatively there will be more people that are poor, and homeless. Also in India, there are local slums where all the people live, unlike the USA where they are hidden from the people's eye.

Some pictures I would like to share about the beautiful construction of India.

retail stores

So I work at a retail store: New York and Company and I was at work today and noticed how rude some customers really are. I was working in the fittings room, where the customers arent allowed to take more than 6 items to try on, but some sneak in clothes regardless. After an elderly woman walked out, I went to her dressing room and saw clothes, hangers everywhere, all over the dressing room. Even though there is a cart outside to hang everything you dont want on. The lady came back to try on more clothes, and as I was taking out the clothes she said can you please rush it, im in a hurry. I was so taken back by how rudely she she condescended me.

Gauranteed I work in a service job, but that doesnt give customers the right to look down upon us and treat us like servants basically. When I politely asked the lady if she could just put out whatever she didnt want instead of leaving it in the dressing room, she looked at me as if I asked her a lot. And when she was leaving she dumped everything she didnt want right on the other clothes i was folding.

I know for a fact, even before I worked in retail that I always had a lot of respect for people working in retail and all these stores. Its not easy to neatly button, fold and hang all the clothes. Just cleaning up my clothes after laundry was a big chore. So I knew how hard it was. However, some people even in 2010 when so many people work for retail at least once in their life, treat the associates as servants and dont have any respect for them whatsoever

cars

so there are plenty of times im driving or walking and I see these young kids in like the hottest cars: beemers, benz, audi, just to name a few. I really dont understand how young kids college bound kids have the money to pay for all these expensive cars. And whyy parents buy their 16 year olds the most expensive cars. Like your child is 16, hasnt even got his permit yet, living in NYC, is probably going to bang that car sooner or later.

A lot of my friends have really nice cars too and on top of that they have it all pimped out, with fancy lights, designs on the side, leather seats, etc. On hand they have really nice cars and on the other when you ask them to chip in money for a party, they say they have no money. Thats the one thing that ticks me off. How do you have the money to buy a really nice car and then pimp it all out and then are being cheap to chip in $15.

One of the reasons I feel that guys spend all their money on cars is that it makes them look hot in front of girls. For example, from "That 70's Show" the only reason the hot girl went on a date with Eric is because he had a really nice car. Or from "Step by Step" when JT took the brand new car to impress the girl but he banged it instead. I feel that boys are inspired from these shows and feel that by having a really nice car they can get the girls. There are also many girls that like guys for their cars. Because it allows them to show off that their boyfriend is hot, because he has such a nice car.

iPhone 4

It came out, finally. One of the most talked about gadgets is finally out. My friend stood in line for like 6 hours outside the mac store and spend about $600 to get his phone. I thought it was just stupid, my exact reply to him was I could buy so many shoes with $600. Not only is it a lot of money but is it worth all the money, the hype?

There was a video done on why not to buy the iPhone 4. They gave 5 reasons: 5: Despite the name it doesnt really run on a 4G network. 4: ATnT will not give new contracts with Unlimited Date so there is technically no point in buying the iPhone for which you would need the Unlimited Data Plan. 3: iPhone will actually be coming to Verizon in a year. 2: ATnT has a $325 early termination of contracts fee. 1: There is nothing really new...apple is just playing catch up to its competitors.

adult shows on family channels

So I didnt have work yesterday came home and just relaxed and watched some tv. I was flipping through channels and started watching "That 70's Show" After the first one ended and the second one was about to start, there was a warning on the screen about the show containing adult material, sexuality and language and all that good stuff. I realized the show was coming on ABC Family. From what I remember ABC Family always shows Rated G shows such as re-runs of Full House, Sabrina the Teen Age Witch etc.

That 70's Show is all about sex, weed, drinking and etc and I strongly beleive that it should not be shown on a channel where kid shows come. When a child is watching tv and a simple warning which is just words with a pretty background in the back come on, he/she is not going to read the whole paragraph and most of the time if parents think their child is watching a good tv show appropriate for their child, the next show is not going to be completely opposite of that.

I feel as if some shows should just be limited to certain channels. Like tv shows that are rated above PG should not come on channels which also have shows that are rated G because then obviously a small child doesnt have the ability to distinguish from whats good for him/her and whats not.

arranged marriages

In our culture arranged marriages are very popular; my parents and my grandparents all had an arranged marriage and even a lot of my cousins now are having arranged marriages. My older cousin and his family were looking for girls for marriages for him and in January they met a girl, the family and my cousin all liked and they got engaged within a week. In mid May they got married.

I always knew that most of my family had arranged marriages but I finally thought about it after my cousin got married about the whole concept. I couldnt grasp the whole idea of how you meet someone and within a week decide that you are willing to spend your whole life together. My parents were engaged for two years before they got married, but I feel that is still not enough time to choose whether you want to get married to someone and spend your whole life with them. However my parents have been married for 27 going on 28 years and my grandparents were married for 51 years before my grandmother passed away.

For myself I would want to be friends with someone and then get to know them for at least 3-4 years before getting married to someone. I feel that after 3-4 years you get to know a person really well and you truly get to see if you can adjust with the person after marriage. Obviously things change a lot after marriage even after knowing someone for 4 years but I feel thats a whole lot better than just knowing someone for 6 months and just going out on the weekends to get to know the other person.

fights

Why is it that everytime you go to a club, there are always those "kids" who get into fights and then eventually are kicked out. I really dont see the point of physically fighting someone...not just at a party but anywhere. Like what are you trying to prove? Whose stronger? Whose cooler? Especially when guys fight over girls and girls fight over guys? In my high school I rmemeber, walking down the hallways, getting pushed because everyone was running to see the fight. I always took the other way around because I didnt want to be involved or see two kids just trying to fight eachother.

Maybe I feel this way because I have never been in a situation with someone where I just wanted to punch them until their teeth fell to the ground. Besides whenever I get into fight with my brother, but he's stronger, taller and bigger, I know better. I remember going to a club one time where it got shut down 2 hours earlier because there were so many fights. I seriously dont see the point in that. I understand a creep is trying to hit on your girl, girlfriend but getting into a fight with him will not solve the issue. You are iether just going to get kicked out of the club, that way you just basically ruined your whole night, and now that your girl who is still inside the club is going to get hit on by so many more guys. And if your fighting in school for whatever reason it may be, its just pointless you know you are going to get caught and then get in serious trouble. Again you never win.

Fist fighting is just stupid. I remmeber one time my best friend got into a fight, because some guy pushed his girlfriend. My bestfriend had to fight like 10 guys all by himself, coz all of his boys were chicken to come in and help, but the other guys boys were all right there, saw him by himself and attacked. In the end, my best friends girlfriend got hurt, because as she was trying to stop the fight, some guy punched her. Eventually my friend got kicked out of the club, had a girlfriend with a black eye and bleeding knee. I really think that even if someone is trying to pick on you to start a fight, walking away is the best solution. Getting into a fist fight, always ends up hurting you or your friends.
Just my two cents on fighting in general :)

son vs daughter

I dont know if this happenes in every family..but certainly does in mine. Why is it that the son's are treates so differently from daughters? My brother starting when he was in the 11th grade was allowed to stay out late whenever he wanted for how long ever he wanted as long as it wasnt a school night. Where as on the other hand in the 9th grade I wanted to go see a school play but was not allowed to go because it ended at 9. Also for High School Prom, my parents were so happy that my brother asked a girl to prom, and for me they forbid me to have a date to prom, even thought he was my best friend since the 8th grade and they met him plenty of times. My mom refused to even discuss the matter with my dad, she said be happy you are even going to prom.

Even now, knowing that I stay out late when Im dorming at stony brook, as soon as I enter home the parental trap is back on. Last summer I wanted to go to my friends party at Stony Brook, my parents actually let me go which was a shocker in its own, but I had to be back by 11. I asked if I could just sleep over and they said no. Even though I dorm there during the main sessions. My brother on the other hand used to come back at 5 am, all he had to do was wake up my parents whenever he got home, so they can know.

My brother has also gone to Miami, Vegas, Los Angeles for a complete week each time. All I wanted to do was go to Pokonos for a weekend with my friends for my best friends birthday. Again, I was not allowed to. I went regardless, had to lie, but my main point is why is it that boys are treated differently than girls. Why did my parents put me in all these self defense classes so I can always defend myself if they werent going to let me out in the first place.
