The "pretty girl" at the job, and the "Mask"

Wow I got pretty carried away on that office post. Anyway, It made me think of a funny reoccurring thing that happens when you work somewhere for a while. Did you ever work at a job where there was no one you really thought looked too good, only to start reconsidering them after a while? I guess after a while of not seeing anyone else, your mind starts playing tricks on you and whatever is there just starts looking appealing.

I think its pretty interesting the way it happens. I've spoken to several people about issues like this and I mostly hear the person you fall in love with is usually someone you'd never expect to fall in love with when you first meet them (and I agree from personal experience)... Which brings up another theme covered in class: The Mask. How can two people, who are apparently so compatible, end up being with each other for years think "oh no, I wouldn't be with her/him" upon first meeting?

I think a big part of the reason is the mask we put on everyday that this phenomena occurs. We very seldom let others peer into our true selves (some of us don't even know our true selves) because perhaps it makes us feel vulnerable or someone may be insecure about some of their characteristics... And its usually the case that the front people put up is a complete opposite of their inner self. A good example is the case of the girl who seems conceited, vain, and self absorbed, but is really incredibly insecure.
