globalization

Yesterday's class was very interesting to me. I took a look at the video she asked us to look up on you tube on "globalization" with Noam Chomsky. I found it very interesting because he mentioned how globalization can be good and bad depending on who is being affected. One simple fact is true, went you prevent people from moving across borders we are definitely limiting the positive effects of globalization. Of course, I'm not all in favor of letting anyone enter the United States. I think we should be given the opportunity to advance academically and economically, but offer something in return to the opportunity given. Many people enter the US and because this is a free country we forget that we need to first secure the future of the American people. I might be crazy, but I agree that before we let anyone into this country a thorough background check is necessary. The opportunity need not to be denied, but certain abilities and qualities should be taken into consideration. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.

On another note, in terms of what we discussed in class, I think we are all influenced by media in some manner. It could be TV, radio, magazines, advertisements, Internet or whatever. I used to allow my son to watch Spongebob Squarepants when he was around 3-4. He is soon to be Seven and after listening to a friend of mine and doing some research over the Internet, I decided to completely cut it out of my son's "life". Some of the episodes are absolutely harmless, and funny sometimes, but it could be very fresh. Besides, the fact that my son is kind of skipping the "girls are yucky" or "girls have cooties" stage is really getting on my nerves. He came home the other day from school and asked me how my date had gone. I answered very short and simple. I said "it went very well, James is very nice". My son responded with a "well, since you went on a date, I'm going to go on a date with Victoria Bove, because she asked me and she's in love with me". My jaw literally dropped!!!! I went through that "boys are gross" stage so why is my son ready to go out on a date??? It's cute now, but somehow I think soon there will be some trouble....

Lady Gaga...We discussed her in class and Madonna as well. I dont think that Madonna was nearly as crazy as Lady Gaga. Gaga might as well throw out her entire wardrobe and walk around naked. She loves the attention so why not get more. Drunk at a Yankees/Mets game, talking with one of the players, while she fondles herself dressed in underwear and fishnet stockings???? Seriously.....then they wonder why women get disrespected and are constantly sexualized in the media. I just witnessed a girl wearing a white blouse with a logo right on her breasts saying "for your entertainment". Now if a guy just walks by and comments on her shirt, either in a respectful or disrespectful manner, is it the guys fault???? All the women would say yes...but, did she provoke it? Hmmmmm.......
