Sherlock Holmes

If it wasn't for Avatar, Sherlock Holmes would be my favorite movie of the year; but in a way I still enjoyed it more than Avatar. I used to read some of the Sherlock Holmes stories, and I think the character in the movie was a great depiction. At first, I thought adding fighting scenes would ruin it, since he didn't fight in the books, but it was done really well.

My favorite scene of the movie was the bare knuckle boxing scene where he methodically planned out every single attack he was going to make, as well as anticipated his opponents reactions; he even predicted summarized all the injuries and predicted the recovery time -- and then carried it all out exactly the way he planned. I can really appreciate strategy and methodical thinking, and I love watching movies like this. The sequel is said to formally introduce Professor Moriarty, which they claim was written with Brad Pitt in mind.

When I was younger I was more interested in the relatively mortal-like "super-heroes" as opposed to heroes like superman, or some other guy who can shoot out laser beams or lift up 10 tons. People that strong don't need to be that creative in solving their problems, and usually have to fight villains so powerful it just seems stupid (and the villains sort of have to be that powerful just to pose a challange).
