If I got a grant towards Autism, I would want to make a documentary focusing on my patient Steven. I would base the film on how I believe Steven is much smarter than people give him credit for. I feel that Steven is a different person with me and I would love to show people what I see when I am with him.
Working with Steven , he has progressed so much in a short period of time. I would show what I have taught him ranging from necessities in life down to funny things that make him feel like a kid. For instance, I have showed him how to navigate using a computer so he can watch his youtube videos. I also taught him how to tell me when he has to go to the bathroom, rather than making a mess for me to clean up. He knows my name and calls me his girlfriend and I even taught him how to say " I love you" and to blows kisses. I showed him how to dance, which his mother finds hysterical.
He loves being a kid, just like any other 14 year old. I feel like people blame his Autism for his tantrums, when we forget how annoying kids are that age as it is. He is a typical boy that loves sports and to watch the games. He has the most amazing memory for if you tell him we will go see fireworks just to keep him quiet, he will ask you for the next week about going to see them.
I would like to show what kind of a person he is and the abilities he has but aren't able to show by going to school. I really don't find it strange that he doesn't like to go to school, who does? I would like to prove that if you treat him like a normal human being, you will come to find he is no different than you or I.
