What I would do with grant money?

I was putting more thought into what i would do with grant money; and about purchasing damaged or foreclosed properties to do useful things with them. I'm not that enthusiastic about a "YMCA" type of youth center for kids, since that would require employees, money to pay them, and is overall more difficult to start up and maintain. For example, I had a friend who worked at a (particularly well-kept)YMCA; it had a large number of employees, exercise equipment, etc. I can't even imagine how many licenses are probably needed for that place. Then there is the issue of a child possibly being hurt in the facility...

I'm more interested in providing housing to people who are trying to get themselves together and are in need of some place to live. I think simply providing low income housing is much simpler, cheaper to maintain (no employees required, unless something needs repairing), and I think in general, a piece of property (such as a 4-plex for example) would be put to better use by providing a family a place to live rather than turning it into an activity center which would will likely be used by kids who already have a home(that, and there are already YMCAs and such out there -- at least here).

If I were to propose an activity center though, I think it would have to be something with a more specific purpose than a YMCA. For example, I thought the girl in class who worked with the autistic child had a useful idea; I can't think of many places that cater to autistic children -- or perhaps children with some other ailment.
