Text Messaging

We all see it all around us, from 7 year olds to 70 year olds, everyone is on their phone texting. It certainly is a fast and easy way to keep in touch with people. For example, I sometimes have to ask questions to someone I havent talked in a very long time, like a family friends. I find it so much easier to just text them and ask the question, rather than calling them, asking them how they are doing, how everything is going and then try and get to the point. But how much is too much? There have been people texting more than 50,000 or 100,000 messages a month. Such addiction to text messaging has caused many accidents. People texting while driving lack attention and dont have full control on the wheel and many crashes have occures because of this. There have also been many accidents while people texting and not paying attention are crossing the streets have been hit by vehicles.

Not only in terms of safety but text messaging allows people to "stalk." For example say you meet someone at a club and exchange numbers. Maybe you were a little "out of it" at the club, and now you notice that this person who you exchanged numbers with does not stop texting you. Also now that the family plan is here, its so much easier for parents to find out from their children, where they are what they are doing. Talking from personal experience my parents before we got text messaging always hesitated in calling my brother when he went out with his friends "ohh i dont want to embarass him in front of his friends." Now with a simple text message they can find out where he is, who he is with and what time he will be back.

Not only has text messaging made it easier for parents and other people to communicate, but many cell phones also come with tracking devices now. This allows people to see where exactly a person is, by the signal the cell phone emmits. An example of this can be seen in the movie "I love you Beth Cooper." Beth's boyfriend always knew where she was, because he had a GPS tracking device on her phone, connected to his.

There are many pros and cons with text messaging, when you observe it from different perspectives. However, one this is for sure, it has certaily made communication and keeping in touch with people a lot easier, and faster.
