epiphany

Alcohol and college students, go hand in hand most of the time. Unfortunately most college students who do drink, dont just drink to taste, but drink to get drunk and have fun. But not all is fun. I realized this, this weekend. It was my friends birthday and all of us went to Queens to celebrate. We got a large bottle of Long Island Ice Tea to share among 5 people. Each of us got a water bottle full of the drink to our selves. We had to drink everything before we got to the lounge itself, because alcohol consumption was forbidden inside. I finished my whole bottle in less that 10 minutes. I knew it had really hit me, but I didnt know till what extent. So on the walk to the lounge, we crossed a deli, and purchased "Juice" for ourselves too. "Juice" is a cheap so to say way to get drunk really fast. I drank almost 1/4 of the can for that too. After that it was all down hill...

As soon as I entered the lounge, I realized I had to step outside, because I felt so chlorophobic and nausea inside the lounge. I stepped outside, sat on the floor and just threw up everything. After that I have no idea what happened. The next thing I remember completely is waking up back in stony brook on my friends bed. I experienced what is called a blackhole. I asked my friends what all went down. They said after I came outside, I threw up almost like 7-9 times, in the 2 hours that we spent there, my friends fed me coffee, vitamin water, gatorade, gingerale, bread and all to make me feel better. They also met another friend of mine at the lounge, who drove us back to Stony Brook.

I should have known better, because something similar happened to my friend couple of months back and she was in fact taken to the hospital. That time I was there to help her out and take her to the hospital. I feel blessed to have friends who took care of me so well, but what about some kids who dont have the most reliable friends? These days excessive amount of alcohol intake goes hand in hand with college students. From my experience I have learnt that it is very important to know when to stop drinking.
