voyeurism

Voyeurism- Well today in class we talked about Voyeurism which is the interest or practice on spying or looking at someone. Voyeurism can be watching someone or being the person that watched. To me versions of voyeurism today are all over the television. Reality shows today portray what goes on in peoples life, "non-scripted", raw-cut film. Audiences are fascinated with the idea of watching and observing others lives and what people do. So though people often say it is weird , really its not it is actually something that is becoming mainstream. Also, many people associate voyeurism with sexual encounters and that is not always the case. Voyeurism does not necessarily have to deal with the idea of watching someone for sexual pleasure but the idea of exposing yourself could help to create a new platform for people to understand others. I think voyeurism ( if accepted by the person that is watching) could be seen as a good thing. A way to freely express oneself and not have to explain who one is because people are watching. It is like the ultimate display of your character and who you are as a person.

I like Lady Gaga

That's not an ironic statement. I walk around with her songs in my head, I've watched her videos on youtube, and I think she's pretty sexy. Papparazzi is def my favorite. It has such a tone of vulnerability, I think it's beautiful. I guess I'm one of those people who tends to be the voice of opposition. I'd probably defend her in a room full of people who didn't like her. I guess the reason I get excited about it, and speaking passionatley about something is never cool, is because I know so many really great performers soooo similar to her that I think are quite a bit better. And I truely believe that her popularity has nothing to do with her superior talent but simply marketing, which has been the case with popular music since it first came about. That is really the way it works. Record companies choose who will be the next big thing. That really takes some of the magic away for me when I think some aging buisiness man decided what art I would be experiencing. I suppose my frustration comes from my desire for people to have the same kind of amazing moments as I do when I here these unbelievable women such as Zola Jesus or Fever Ray (check them out). To each his own, of course. Everyone has different taste. I'm dissapointed in myself that I dont articulate that part of me very well. I also believe that progress and such comes about when people really express themselves, no matter how much of a dick it makes them look like.

New Talent

Tastemakers Summer '10 Preview from TastemakersNJ on Vimeo.

I love to see young people doing their thing! So a friend of mine has a clothing label. check out the video

True Blood

I LOVEEEEEEE this show! True Blood is the new HBO sensation and I have fell for it. The show is about vampires and human beings living together knowingly. In the show vampires are known by humans and are recognized as a coalition within society. The vampires are trying to get use to being open about themselves. In the show the main character Sookie, a human, is in love with a vampire named Bill Compton. The fact that they date annoys other humans and vampires. The humans call Sookie a "fangbanger" while the vampire doesn't understand why Bill would be interested in a "mere" human being.

I like how True Blood shows a different reality which is different then ours which I like because it is a breath of fresh air. I think a lot of people like it because it is a fantasy world that is like an alter- ego for people.

Toy Story 3

I'll admit I was anticipating the release of this movie, probably more than a 21 year old girl should. When I heard that there was a third movie made, it took me back to my childhood. I miss being the age where I had no responsibilities and lived stress free.

However, the movie was a lot more depressing then I remember them being when I was a kid. The movie made me cry, a lot. Then I began to think that this movie was made for children and I felt that they aimed it at an older crowd. There was a scene where you thought that they were going to "die".....really????? it was the most depressing thing that I have ever seen.

I don't know if it is just because I am older that it affected me so much but it made me miss being a kid even more. I hate having more and more emotions as I get older. I feel that I have more to think about with all that I have been through.

Strippers.

My boyfriend and I had a discussion about strippers the other day, you know one of our good quality talks. I brought it up as a joke that after dinner we were hitting the strip club. After that comment, he went on about how much he hates them and they arent for him.

I mentioned how I think its sad that men go and you must be living a sad life if you can't see a naked girl without paying for one. My boyfriend then proceeds to blame the girls for doing it and its their own fault. If you haven't guessed, this is where the talked turned into an argument.

I give the girls props for having the "balls" to get up and dance naked in front of strangers, they make damn good money. Would I ever do it? No, but they take advantage of the pathetic guys that come down to pay to see them. The way I see it is, if men didn't go, the girls would have no income. So at the end of the day, if men really find strippers disgusting, stop giving them business.

sometimes I like animals more than humans.

Animals are beautiful. They can't talk yet you feel like you know what they would say. They are so innocent that it boggles my mind when there is animal cruelty. My mom works at an animal shelter and today I went by. I walk in and saw the most heart wrenching site. An adorable mini pitbull sleeping in a cage, with her lip hanging off her face, cuts and scars covering her tiny back.

I approached her slowly for I heard she was a bait dog, when people have dog fights... she was what they practiced with. I bent down and looked at her and immediately her tail started wagging. I opened the cage and was attacked, with kisses. It is unbelievable to me how a dog could trust anyone after that.

Looking at this beautiful animal, I don't understand how people can be so sick. She just wanted to be loved and it broke my heart she was so beat up. We are going to foster her and help her recover and I can't wait until she is healthy enough to find the right home that she deserves.

wow.

So when someone searched "white people stole my car" the Google search engine then asked " Did you mean : Black people stole my car" I just began to laugh. Many people were upset about this claiming that Google was being biased against black . It kind of started a debate on how corporations like Google view black people and our demographic and what is really true. Why I laugh at this image because Black people fail to realize that the reason why Google asked that question because Google only did that because that is what was searched or put on the internet more. I think Black people as a whole need to unite and stop blaming others for their mistakes. Though black stereotypes do occur I feel as the only way we can change that is to become educated and powerful individuals and educate others about us. How do we do that? Stay in school, instead of getting upset with people that display ignorance towards African- Americans stay calm and try to explain where they are wrong. A large percentage of people do not realize that the statements they say is biased so of instead of black people getting upset we should stay calm so we can show them the truth.

Family values differ in cultures

Family values differ greatly, depending on the culture. My background is Hispanic and I have lived in 2 different Spanish Speaking countries. The respect help for your parents and elders stressed greatly. However, I was born in the U.S. and sometimes when I see today's generation, the way they carry themselves including the way they speak to their parents I feel as though I'm out of place. I would never in my 32 years even think about saying a bad word in front of my parents nor grandparents, if they were alive. I witness on a daily basis, children and teenagers of all ages cursing, screaming and raising their voices to their elders. Treating them with disrespect and giving them attitudes. I wish today's generation knew how hard it is to raise a child with good morals and have them abide by them. Today's generation has no idea how much hard work is involved when raising today's children.
When I came to new york I saw an entire different prospect on family. The people I started to hang out with (non-Hispanic) I feel have very different feelings about their own families. The profanity used and disrespect shown to their parents and even siblings was very uncomfortable. In my life I would never speak to any member of my family like that. And the way people use race to "piss off" their family. I became friends with one girl who said she only dated people of other races just to upset her mother. I was raised not to see color, we are all people. The rest of the world is becoming so bi-racial I don’t see why this country is so far behind. And why do things purposely to upset your parents and be spiteful I don’t understand. My family is always number 1 in my heart and I love unconditionally and will have respect always.

Perception

I feel that media has altered our idea of how people view themselves and what really faces them in the mirror. Today the medias image of someone is usually created and does not show who a person really is. I feel as celebrities and politicians have certain "images" to upkeep which is why people pretend to be who they are not because they feel they cannot disappoint their audience.
Here are Examples of people that clearly uphold and image. I feel as each of these public figures have had trouble maintaining the image that they once portrayed and now are paying for it.
.

Omaha

I can't apologize enough for denying everyone my company this morning. Im busy than I've ever been in my life. I don't like it. Here's a poem I wrote about Omaha. This counts as an entry right?

I can’t wont now turn back to our frosty mornings some place better than here romance. This city. This odd city. Where I experienced the small population so fully. It’s cold not as bitter in recollect but quiet and familiar. This city iron rust and brick of ancient money gone west and left the strong behind. I’ve never been more hypocritical than when I miss you. My older self then scorning the harsh wind walk out of stranger apartment and new sun drive home. This place where I caked on sweat of new flame and dirt of one night lying on open mattress. Meticulous roadways from ribbed brick road to lonely bar on god knows how far street. Where I drank the imports of back home comfort and spilled whiskey on my pants to make you less embarrassed. Again and again. How they had blurred in the present and are each unique in retro. This city. Where my legal status changed like the weather. You are a breath away. And now are a package of disorderly thought I knew better. I love the captive hurt always looking east to the abrupt end of this town. The Stockholm reality shown under mellow light of outdated infrastructure. This heart of America with no beat. The dead still walking playground shivering cigarette fix outside building deemed unfit for filthy habits. Bum ‘em and give standard explanation of smoke karma and how you’re always handing ‘em out when you’ve got ‘em. The addiction to conversation still outweighs the fear of the self-conscious. And drink. And money come from trees that I water with hatred. And drink come from money that I hand over with regret. And dollar jukebox come from songs in my car for free but no one there to listen. And listen. Listen to this. Tell me that you feel the way I do when you hear it. Tell me this makes you aware of your skin and chemical experience. Tell me then we know we are each other. And I’ll tell you. But with more focus on the corner of your mouth. Wrinkle of subtle pleasure to be a part and play it well my fellow. Listen to us, you city of red light stare across the lane at other intimacies. Listen to us cause we never have enough time to say it. Your crackling concrete that felt our soles on walks to horrors and strolls of ecstasy.

Labels

So I just want to vent about how people are always so quick to label. I have a 11 year old cousin and he is a cute quiet boy who I personally think is soo adorable. My family now is suggesting that my little cousin is slow. And THAT MAKES ME SOOO UPSET ! why are we so quick to label children which to me only effects how the child thinks about him / her self . It bothers me that we feel that every little thing means that something is wrong with him mentally. Personally I feel that there is nothing wrong with my cousin just that he has an over-protective mom . His mother still bathes him and spoon feeds him and his family wonders why his learning and abilities are stiffened. I feel that the fact the boy does not have the chance to grow he still is in a mentality of a 8 year old because that is what is presented to him. I do NOT want my cousin to be label not only because I feel as if he was given the chance he could display the characteristics of an 11 year old. Also, I feel that labeling the problem does not solve it just catogorizes groups of children which will later just hurt them . Schools do not do a good job on teaching the children in these "special" catagories how to engage in the real world which is truly serving them a injustice. Schools should try to facilate new ways of learning and teach these students how to integrate them selves in regular society.

Bill Clinton Argument

So another debate that we were having in class today that I found interesting was about the Bill Clinton case. Was he guilty? Was his case blown out of proportion or not? Personally, I feel sure infedality is common these days and I suppose always was. Now days there are more means of people getting caught, and so one really has to be careful :: Bill Clinton, Spitzer, Tiger Woods etc.

Sure what Bill Clinton did was wrong, but thats not what caused his impeachment, (for which he luckily wasnt found guilty, because I think he was one of the greatest presidents of our time). What CLinton was impeached was for lying under oath. This made people think what other things could he have lied about to get his presidential position. This is what made the whole case get blown out of proportion. Some man who represents your country, who claims to be religious, lied while swearing on the bible.

I dont think that people were upset and questioned Clinton's presidency because of his infedality but because of his lying under oath. I beleive this becaue even with Tiger Woods, people made such a big deal about his affairs, but when he came back, his fans still supported him. Similar to Chris Brown. There are many famous people who have been caught in many scandals but most of them have made a recovery

3rd world countries

Ok so today in class we had a somewhat heated discussion on 3rd world countries. Who are they? What makes them 3rd world countries and such. I was born and lived in India for 7.5 years of my life, and even when I go back now I'm not scared to walk around the market places, where you will see many homeless people lying down on the streets or beggars stalking people asking for money. However, when I drive through Wyandanch in Long Island I lock all my doors, roll up my windows and try to go as fast as I can. Even when I am with my brother or dad I'm still nervous about what can happen.

So at the end of the day I decided that its all a matter of perspective. Why are there so many people that think India is a 3rd World Country? It's because when you look in magazines, movies, and such they only show the poor India. Even Slumdog Millionare, they didnt show how the wealthy people lived. Gauranteed that's not what the movie was about, but I'm just giving one example. A lot of people also consider India a 3rd world country because, there is a far greater population than say USA so obviously relatively there will be more people that are poor, and homeless. Also in India, there are local slums where all the people live, unlike the USA where they are hidden from the people's eye.

Some pictures I would like to share about the beautiful construction of India.

In the past week I have witnessed two young adults die in car accidents. And it baffles me how people one moment are completely functioning planning there life’s for tomorrow but tomorrow is not promised. And the shock of both of these accidents is what adds to the tragedy RIP Khalifah Muhammad and Gregory Herrera . Khalifah a student at the acclaimed Men’s black college Morehouse, known for his film . Gregory Herrera , fun loving student at Stony Brook University. One of the saddest things and weirdest is the Vlog that Khalifah wrote days before his death. Interesting to see how closely this is related to his death. In this vlog he talks about how he is grateful for his life and how nothing is ever promised to day. Here is a clip Both such a sad story. Never put off what you can do today for Tomorrow.

Coulda been a contender

I was pretty dissapointed when the U.S. lost at the World Cup today. I was working but there are a couple of TV's in the bar so I got to watch it almost in its entirity. I thought they played well, just couldnt find the back of the net. I look forward to a day when soccer might be huge in this country. I think the U.S. team making it this far will certainly help that cause. I've been to quite a few games here but it's usually embarrasing how many people show up. So why isn't it popular? I've heard many arguements as to the greatness or lack-there-of of footie, but I think there are two main reasons. If you look at the big three in this country (Base,Basket,Foot) the players are HUGE. Not some of them, all of them. They reflect the motto "Bigger, Faster, Stronger" not something like "Smarter, Dedicatedier, Trainingalotness". Yeah, Kobe has worked hard to get where he is. If I worked 10 times as hard, with twice as much luck, I'm still not going to play in the NBA. That's one theory. The other? Advertising. The mother of profits. Soccer leaves almost no room for this, which is awesome. These players don't get to take a break every 5 min. I guess, I'll have to be satiated with trips to Europe. Not a problem.

retail stores

So I work at a retail store: New York and Company and I was at work today and noticed how rude some customers really are. I was working in the fittings room, where the customers arent allowed to take more than 6 items to try on, but some sneak in clothes regardless. After an elderly woman walked out, I went to her dressing room and saw clothes, hangers everywhere, all over the dressing room. Even though there is a cart outside to hang everything you dont want on. The lady came back to try on more clothes, and as I was taking out the clothes she said can you please rush it, im in a hurry. I was so taken back by how rudely she she condescended me.

Gauranteed I work in a service job, but that doesnt give customers the right to look down upon us and treat us like servants basically. When I politely asked the lady if she could just put out whatever she didnt want instead of leaving it in the dressing room, she looked at me as if I asked her a lot. And when she was leaving she dumped everything she didnt want right on the other clothes i was folding.

I know for a fact, even before I worked in retail that I always had a lot of respect for people working in retail and all these stores. Its not easy to neatly button, fold and hang all the clothes. Just cleaning up my clothes after laundry was a big chore. So I knew how hard it was. However, some people even in 2010 when so many people work for retail at least once in their life, treat the associates as servants and dont have any respect for them whatsoever

I was against "Online Dating Websites"

I was logged on my facebook account and I just noticed that they have an online sating application. Seems like there are more people into that nowadays. I have to say I have always been against this. I'd hear about online predators and the thought of it would send a chill down my spine. I've been conversing with some of my co-workers on this and how they feel about it. It's kinda funny because I'm in a wedding in August and it just so happens that it's a match.com wedding. Go figure!!! I work with the person that's getting married in this wedding and when I asked her about it a while ago she mentioned that "Time has changed and we all live such busy lives with work and trying to be career oriented that it has become hard to meet and start meaningful relationships" those were her exact words. Has it come to this...really? She felt that all you find in bars and clubs, if you're into that type of night life, are jerks or guys who are just looking for fun. I don't necessarily agree with that, because you can find a really nice guy or gal at a bar or club sometimes, but I have to say that I was so against it until now. I have been dating someone for a month now from match.com and he is putting every guy I have dated so far to shame. My co-worker says "I finally met my match on match". She is genuinely happy and they make the cutest couple, but is it possible to find your perfect match?

We have been going back and forth on this topic because I have been so against it for so long and now I recommend it to others. Some people will argue that with all the technology advances nowadays, these applications or websites support society's "judge a book by it's cover" mentality, just because you can look at someone and judge by how they look. However, everyone has their own preferences and if you ask any psychologist they will tell you that a person's physique is the first thing that we all look at when meeting someone in real life. Does that mean we are all superficial then? Of course not. We all have our preferences and we like to stick to them. My co- worker said that despite this "we all know that it's not all a person has to offer and beauty fades with age. What matters most is the beauty that someone has inside". We all value being treated with respect and we look for chemistry, compatibility, humor, culture, etc. Let’s say that you found a picture of someone that looked really good, and decided to talk to this person. If you are looking for a real relationship and you noticed that this person is a jerk, narcissistic, and or just stupid, there’s no way you are going to give a person like this a chance no matter how they look. We also have to remember “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. What you think looks good to you is not the same for some. We all come in different shapes and sizes and we all have someone that likes any of our shapes and sizes as well. Most importantly is what we have inside that makes us special. So from now on, I will shut my mouth in terms of how I felt about these sites because I like the guy I'm dating...lol!

Wireless technology and Globalization...Embrace it!!!!

Technology will affect globalization in many sectors such as marketing, business and sharing of information. Technology will be essential for many businesses success in the global market. Companies will need to have the cutting edge in technology to be a strong contender in the global marketplace. Many businesses rely in how fast information moves and how quickly they retrieve that information. Majority of successful companies strongly depends on e-commerce to introduce their product to the world market. The Internet is a great technological tool that many business use to target their audience and reach that ultimate goal of success. With all business, there is a great need for sharing information securely and effectively, with the use of email, companies achieve just that. Email has become the key communication tools that mostly all businesses use to reach out to partners and potential clients. Many of today’s business not only try to reach out to domestic clients but widely spread their products internationally, through many different countries and technology plays a major role in that aspect. Telecommunications has change drastically in the past decade. Many companies use cellular communications as their main form of verbal interactions with their employees as well as business partners.
Cellular communications integrates all forms of technology that a business would need to effectively carry out their everyday task wirelessly. Globally cellular communications has become the number one technology around the globe and its infrastructure is constantly being improved to accommodate the vast demands of users and its security. Cellular communications offers email, Internet, voice conferencing, faxing on a wireless basis and the company I work for does just this. I come across many customers that are concerned about being tracked by the government with such advances in technology. How do we get these people to understand that they need to embrace the advances in technology? Without global cooperation, and I mean from everyone, including the baby boomers, is Globalization gonna be impacted significantly or will we soon be living in an era in which everyone is just ok with this. I'm just at work thinking, and these people seriously need to get with the program. Most of them are baby boomers, but with the economy being the way that it is right now, most of them won't be retiring anytime soon, so what are they planing on doing?

Working Again

I wish I could take the rest of the summer off at work. Honestly, it doesn't even have to do with wanting to enjoy the hot weather. I just received my student teaching placements and now that I know what school I will be at, during student teaching, like the dork that I am, I just want to spend the summer preparing for this. I'm already nervous and it's stressing me out. I'm great at public speaking, but let's face it, these kids can sometimes really get the best of you. Fortunately, I have a lot of patience and I have been waiting for this for a long time. I might contact the school district early, as soon as my summer classes are over so I can take a look at the curriculum and what needs to be covered. I want to be a step ahead. Nuts huh???
I'm trying to start my grant writing. I was impressed by what Prof. Baldwin has discussed in class in terms of getting "money". I going to be working with children of all ages and I want to make a significant difference, but let's face it, in this world nothing is easy and if you have the money it helps a lot. My ultimate goal is to come up with a solution that the Department of Education implements nationwide. I believe that we should all have the opportunity to learn a second language and acquire it with a native like accent, which has been proven to only be possible before the age of 12. I want to implement second language acquisition starting in Kindergarten, when our kids "spongy brain" is at it's best ever. The curriculum for it would require significant socialization with native speakers of the foreign language as well as an well developed academic literacy involving writing and reading in the foreign language as well. We cannot say we know a language unless we can speak it, write it and read it. Not only do we need to learn these levels of a language, but we need to know when to use social language and academic language according to the situation or it's context. In today's world, where we are emerging globally with different worlds it's highly useful to communicate in more than one language. I believe in this and I wan to make it known.

A Man and His Ca --I mean, Mask.

Yes Malvika, they buy them for women, probably 90% of what a heterosexual man does (or more) is to show off for a woman(I'm sure you noticed as much). The people who don't want to chip in money for a party probably really don't have it because that car is eating them alive, via insurance, gas, car notes etc. At least for some people that's the case. Cars seem more important to men because they are expected to do things like drive a woman to dinner, pay for the dinner, take her home etc. Yes, its 2010 and a new world, but you know if you had to drive some asshole to dinner and pay for the meal you will probably get together with your girlfriends afterwards to talk about how much of a deadbeat loser he is; I may be wrong though.(or you probably wouldn't bother with someone like that)

Usually people buy material things to boost their ego, or to feel like they achieved something. For most people a car is like an extension to themselves, and how they want the world to see them. Strange thing is, that material thing never seems as good once you get your hands on it; you always want more --especially when that thing becomes last year's thing, or the older model. I remember when a friend of mine bought his new car, he wanted to drive everywhere. Suddenly he always had to go out --even when we went to clubs and etc. he always wanted to check out a another club while we were in one or just be seen driving around. If he could drive the car inside the club and just chill in it, he would.

Anyway the moral of the story is, there are a lot of men who let their cars and clothes do the talking for them to women; most likely because there are a lot of women who "listen" only to cars and material things(there wouldn't be a point to doing it, if it didn't work). Its how this society is though, we're all to blame.

cars

so there are plenty of times im driving or walking and I see these young kids in like the hottest cars: beemers, benz, audi, just to name a few. I really dont understand how young kids college bound kids have the money to pay for all these expensive cars. And whyy parents buy their 16 year olds the most expensive cars. Like your child is 16, hasnt even got his permit yet, living in NYC, is probably going to bang that car sooner or later.

A lot of my friends have really nice cars too and on top of that they have it all pimped out, with fancy lights, designs on the side, leather seats, etc. On hand they have really nice cars and on the other when you ask them to chip in money for a party, they say they have no money. Thats the one thing that ticks me off. How do you have the money to buy a really nice car and then pimp it all out and then are being cheap to chip in $15.

One of the reasons I feel that guys spend all their money on cars is that it makes them look hot in front of girls. For example, from "That 70's Show" the only reason the hot girl went on a date with Eric is because he had a really nice car. Or from "Step by Step" when JT took the brand new car to impress the girl but he banged it instead. I feel that boys are inspired from these shows and feel that by having a really nice car they can get the girls. There are also many girls that like guys for their cars. Because it allows them to show off that their boyfriend is hot, because he has such a nice car.

One for me and one for my homies

My boss invited me out to a show in the Village on Monday. We drank more on the train ride out than most people do in one night. I really enjoy drinking. I consider myself a very good drunk and have (almost) never experienced that blackout, stupid kind of intoxication. I usually just loosen up and feel great about the world, which I don't consider as unhealthy as some because I think that's who I really am inside, it let's me be myself. I completley disagree with any opinion one might have that that sounds like I have a drinking problem. I don't. I'm a grown up, I enjoy booze.
Anyways, that's not what I was getting to. So I'm nice and tight, but my boss is putting them down like I've never seen, and I've seen a few. But we have a great time. A truely fun evening. Saw the former guitar player for Miles Davis, met some cool people and had some great, personal conversation. Somehow, I remembered a song on the keys and played for the bar. I didn't put too much thought into what it would be like at work after this epic night with my supervisor so I had no expectations. But when I did go to work later this week, it was so wierd. He seems so ambivalent towards me. It's not really rejection that I'm feeling. He's a cool person but not someone I would have intention of hanging out with all the time. No, I feel wierd because it's the perfect example for me how many people are such liars. To themselves, to other people. I got to see who he really was the other night. And I know you can say who he is at work is who he really is as well, and I get the argument, but it's a lazy one. I'm not saying you are only yourself when your sloshed and hanging out, but why do people have to loose that personal touch in the "real" world. The irony is that I would rather work way harder for a friend then some blank authority figure. I reject that world. I want to live as the best of me, always.

Brain Burning Week

I've been at company meetings and trainings for the past 3 days. This is sooo exhausting. I don't understand how is it that I can be attentive when it comes to going to my classes, but when I have to attend training classes that involve work I can not stay up no matter how much I try. I'm really cool with my trainer and he keeps on making jokes about how I'm not paying attention and I'm falling asleep. I can't even try to hit him back with a smart comment because he's right. Maybe it's because I'm not as interested. He's an amazing trainer, I know it's not him, but this certainly isn't as interesting as an art class, like the one that I'm taking now nor does it have anything to do with education, because I'd find it interesting then. I know I would be highly attentive. I feel bad, he really is a good trainer and I don't want him to think my disinterest has anything to do with him. Maybe I'll apologize after training is over today.

On another note, today is the last day of school for my son and he was soooo excited. He couldn't wait to get home and he hadn't gotten on the bus yet. I'm in a very difficult situation now. Camp for kids is not cheap and someone has to watch my son while I work and go to school. I keep asking myself what the heck I'm going to do. It's nearly $900.00 per month for two and a half months of no school. Why can't kids just go to school all year round? There's a good idea. Maybe they can go every day Monday through Friday from 9-5pm. Then I could take him and be there when the bus brings him back. Should I write to the Department of Education about this? I'm sure I'm not the only parent in favor of this, right?

Anyway, right now I'm on lunch break from this training class. The class re-starts at 1pm and I'm trying to take advantage of the free time I have which hasn't been much this week. I'm sooo behind on everything and it's time to engage in crunch time. It's several sleepless nights for me for the next couple of days. I have to catch up.

iPhone 4

It came out, finally. One of the most talked about gadgets is finally out. My friend stood in line for like 6 hours outside the mac store and spend about $600 to get his phone. I thought it was just stupid, my exact reply to him was I could buy so many shoes with $600. Not only is it a lot of money but is it worth all the money, the hype?

There was a video done on why not to buy the iPhone 4. They gave 5 reasons: 5: Despite the name it doesnt really run on a 4G network. 4: ATnT will not give new contracts with Unlimited Date so there is technically no point in buying the iPhone for which you would need the Unlimited Data Plan. 3: iPhone will actually be coming to Verizon in a year. 2: ATnT has a $325 early termination of contracts fee. 1: There is nothing really new...apple is just playing catch up to its competitors.

adult shows on family channels

So I didnt have work yesterday came home and just relaxed and watched some tv. I was flipping through channels and started watching "That 70's Show" After the first one ended and the second one was about to start, there was a warning on the screen about the show containing adult material, sexuality and language and all that good stuff. I realized the show was coming on ABC Family. From what I remember ABC Family always shows Rated G shows such as re-runs of Full House, Sabrina the Teen Age Witch etc.

That 70's Show is all about sex, weed, drinking and etc and I strongly beleive that it should not be shown on a channel where kid shows come. When a child is watching tv and a simple warning which is just words with a pretty background in the back come on, he/she is not going to read the whole paragraph and most of the time if parents think their child is watching a good tv show appropriate for their child, the next show is not going to be completely opposite of that.

I feel as if some shows should just be limited to certain channels. Like tv shows that are rated above PG should not come on channels which also have shows that are rated G because then obviously a small child doesnt have the ability to distinguish from whats good for him/her and whats not.

arranged marriages

In our culture arranged marriages are very popular; my parents and my grandparents all had an arranged marriage and even a lot of my cousins now are having arranged marriages. My older cousin and his family were looking for girls for marriages for him and in January they met a girl, the family and my cousin all liked and they got engaged within a week. In mid May they got married.

I always knew that most of my family had arranged marriages but I finally thought about it after my cousin got married about the whole concept. I couldnt grasp the whole idea of how you meet someone and within a week decide that you are willing to spend your whole life together. My parents were engaged for two years before they got married, but I feel that is still not enough time to choose whether you want to get married to someone and spend your whole life with them. However my parents have been married for 27 going on 28 years and my grandparents were married for 51 years before my grandmother passed away.

For myself I would want to be friends with someone and then get to know them for at least 3-4 years before getting married to someone. I feel that after 3-4 years you get to know a person really well and you truly get to see if you can adjust with the person after marriage. Obviously things change a lot after marriage even after knowing someone for 4 years but I feel thats a whole lot better than just knowing someone for 6 months and just going out on the weekends to get to know the other person.

fights

Why is it that everytime you go to a club, there are always those "kids" who get into fights and then eventually are kicked out. I really dont see the point of physically fighting someone...not just at a party but anywhere. Like what are you trying to prove? Whose stronger? Whose cooler? Especially when guys fight over girls and girls fight over guys? In my high school I rmemeber, walking down the hallways, getting pushed because everyone was running to see the fight. I always took the other way around because I didnt want to be involved or see two kids just trying to fight eachother.

Maybe I feel this way because I have never been in a situation with someone where I just wanted to punch them until their teeth fell to the ground. Besides whenever I get into fight with my brother, but he's stronger, taller and bigger, I know better. I remember going to a club one time where it got shut down 2 hours earlier because there were so many fights. I seriously dont see the point in that. I understand a creep is trying to hit on your girl, girlfriend but getting into a fight with him will not solve the issue. You are iether just going to get kicked out of the club, that way you just basically ruined your whole night, and now that your girl who is still inside the club is going to get hit on by so many more guys. And if your fighting in school for whatever reason it may be, its just pointless you know you are going to get caught and then get in serious trouble. Again you never win.

Fist fighting is just stupid. I remmeber one time my best friend got into a fight, because some guy pushed his girlfriend. My bestfriend had to fight like 10 guys all by himself, coz all of his boys were chicken to come in and help, but the other guys boys were all right there, saw him by himself and attacked. In the end, my best friends girlfriend got hurt, because as she was trying to stop the fight, some guy punched her. Eventually my friend got kicked out of the club, had a girlfriend with a black eye and bleeding knee. I really think that even if someone is trying to pick on you to start a fight, walking away is the best solution. Getting into a fist fight, always ends up hurting you or your friends.
Just my two cents on fighting in general :)

son vs daughter

I dont know if this happenes in every family..but certainly does in mine. Why is it that the son's are treates so differently from daughters? My brother starting when he was in the 11th grade was allowed to stay out late whenever he wanted for how long ever he wanted as long as it wasnt a school night. Where as on the other hand in the 9th grade I wanted to go see a school play but was not allowed to go because it ended at 9. Also for High School Prom, my parents were so happy that my brother asked a girl to prom, and for me they forbid me to have a date to prom, even thought he was my best friend since the 8th grade and they met him plenty of times. My mom refused to even discuss the matter with my dad, she said be happy you are even going to prom.

Even now, knowing that I stay out late when Im dorming at stony brook, as soon as I enter home the parental trap is back on. Last summer I wanted to go to my friends party at Stony Brook, my parents actually let me go which was a shocker in its own, but I had to be back by 11. I asked if I could just sleep over and they said no. Even though I dorm there during the main sessions. My brother on the other hand used to come back at 5 am, all he had to do was wake up my parents whenever he got home, so they can know.

My brother has also gone to Miami, Vegas, Los Angeles for a complete week each time. All I wanted to do was go to Pokonos for a weekend with my friends for my best friends birthday. Again, I was not allowed to. I went regardless, had to lie, but my main point is why is it that boys are treated differently than girls. Why did my parents put me in all these self defense classes so I can always defend myself if they werent going to let me out in the first place.

WE ARE SO SPOILED.!

Thinking about this generation we are so accustomed to the idea of technology we do not realize how lucky we have it. The use of technology today is so integrated in our daily lives that I don't think we could spend a day with out it. From the television, cellphone and computer, the new technology has assimilated our culture into one, leaving most things that were once special to that region , common. We do not realized how technology has created a global community. Now talking to someone across the nation or in another country can happen instantly when before it took weeks for snail mail to reach loved once across the world. Or the fact we can just take a plane to India where once we had to travel by boat and carriage. We do not even see it as a luxury just something that comes with life. Now the fact that we are all closely connected it has created the exchange in ideas and cultures and that has greatly effected us. Now when we go down the street we can get imported sushi or get traditional African clothing you can find that all in america. But now the question is if this is a good thing.

Globalization: Mwahahaha

After watching Noam Chompsky's presentaion about globalization, the part that stood out to me the most, was the situation where farmers and other small business owners can't afford to sell their products in their won countries, because they can't compete with the foreign competitors.

The image villifies large corporation owners and investors, by showing a man who seems to be possessed by money --his eyes are glowing green, the cigar smoke is green, symbolizing that everything revolves around green (money). I once had a sociology professor that said Capitalism is like a vampire, in that it cannot survive without sucking the blood of the poor or less fortunate; sucking blood of course is a metaphor for exploiting them.

From what he said, you obviously can tell he is very far left as far as politics are concerned, howeveer I do believe there is some truth to what he said. For example, some many corporations (if not all) pay their employees unfair wages, and the people who do the most work get paid the less; in general. The documentary The Corporation is pretty interesting and it offers a perspective on corporations and capitalism seldom explored; basically focusing on the negative aspect. (Its on youtube)

There was also an interesting was a documentary ( I think by Jamaica Kincaid) that explained the economic issues many Jamaicans faced after colonization. Basically, nearly the entire island was focused on producing banannas, and that they could hardly even sell them to people on the island, because of how far ahead their foreign competitors were by the time the country was independent.

Professors

When we were talking about sex vs gender in class , I thought about the Womens' Studies class I took last year at Stony brook. A lot of the images that we reviewed were ones that I have already seen and it made me realize how much I actually learned from a class and carried on with me.

I stopped to think about how much a professor makes or breaks a course. Anything that I have learned and remembered over the years, tend to be from classes where I had laid back professors that treated their students as equals. It shows in my grades as well, for I always do well in classes that I actually want to sit through.

Being at Stony Brook has been difficult because I am use to having a small class size where the professor knows everyones name. That's why I was surprised to find such a good professor that taught the course. He made us want to learn because we felt that he wanted to teach it. He wasn't there because it was his job and it was what he had to do in order to get paid. I feel like so many professors make it seem like they are held at gun point to be there and forget that we are all humans.

Globalization

Globalization to me is something along the lines of diversity, taking in resources and opportunities different groups of people bring to the table. in my definition different groups consist of people from different economic standing, different country of origin, religious background, social and political views. i believe that if everyone took a more objective stance on all the differing opinions and ways of life there are out there, we could have a better country less divided, and the same goes for the rest of the world. everyone gets caught up on numbers and interpretations, sometimes losing the message that was supposed to be conveyed. i don't think one group should have all encumbered power over another group. i feel like we live in a time, or i hope we live in a time where people can believe two different things yet still work towards a common goal. if we get hung up on specific and sometimes "close minded" feelings or attitudes, are we really doing what's best for those population as a whole? this is a question i feel needs to be addressed on a global level. it's definitely relevant because immigration whether it be legal or illegal is happening all over the world and it affects this country and all others every day. if we got over that fact that people are coming and tried to tackle why they were coming, don't you think we could put the collective strength to better use?

OMG does that flag say Penis? Umm sweetie, it says Pines

i'm Tarantino'ing my story with shedding light on the end of my night first.

Nighttime: while sitting in plastic arm chairs overlooking the water on fire island saturday night, the question i asked (aloud mind you), was "omg, does that flag say Penis?", to which my friend anwered, "Umm sweetie, it says Pines!"

beginning of day: it was my first time on fire island and let me tell you, it was a blast. the ferry ride over from Sayville was nice. it was a beautiful day, sunny and 78 degrees, perfect weather for walking around... and other activities, some that won't be mentioned. the houses that i walked passed along the boardwalk were some of the nicest i've ever seen. there was one in particular that i saw from the back that was a sort of swiss family robinson type of deal with a twisting gangplank through a wooded area that lead to the house. the beach was amazing and the view was the same.

later that day my friend and i stumbled across a bar that was bought out for the day and ALL our drinks were free, the beginning of happiness. that was fun for a while, and as the day progressed there was a lot of dancing. all and all it was a great day, will absolutely be back. can't wait for Round 2!

80/20 Rule

i previously knew about the 80/20 rule of photography, and for example you should take more pictures rather than less, because out of 100% probably only 20% are good. Well, i never really heard about the 80/20 rule in relationships.

i'm going through a rough time in my relationship i have been in for over three and a half years. sunday i decided that things needed to change, because i knew we were both unhappy and i felt like each of us were just waiting for the other to make a move, like in the snow drift example professor baldwin explained. the thing i'm struggling with is figuring out what or who takes the 80 or the 20. i don't know if i'm the 80% i am unwilling to give up, or if he is the 80% i am willing to give up. in that same manner i don't know if by calling it quits for now, if i will be happy alone, or more happy than i know we both were in the relationship, hence the 20%. it's something i have been struggling with for a while now and it finally came to blows.

love isn't something that is affecting my decision. i know without a fact that it is present on both sides. that will be there forever and i believe has the ability to start things up again if we both get to a good place personally. am i naive to think this way, to hope for the best? i just know that i needed to take a jump for myself, and maybe after all said and done we will both turn out as better people???

Globalization

globalization..good or bad?

SO what is globalization? It is the assimilation of people, societies and cultures from many different parts of the world into one society, culture and own world. Globalization is possible through transportaion and new forms of communication. For example, as technology in transportation has imporoved greatly, tranveling across the globe seems less of a hassle. If I wanted to in about 2 days I can find myself in Tokyo. It is through the improvements in technology and the time it takes to travel across the world has greatly increased, so the number of people travelling have certainly increased.

When people travel to-and-fro in between different countries they also exchange many ideas. For example the whole concept of sushi from Japan, Bollywood Dancing in SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE and more, are all due to globalization. People traveling and exploring new ideas may find some interesting and bring them back to their country and the whole new concept might just assimilate.

In High School, I remmeber being one of the very few people if not the only from India. At a dance show my friend and I danced to some bollywood songs. Many of my friends and peers enjoyed the songs, asked me names of it and now they listen to and follow bollywood music. This is a small scale globalization. I feel globalization is a great way for different cultures from across the world to come together.

Family

I have a very weird family. We are all over the place and we don't really talk to each other unless there is an emergency in the family. For example, my mother had surgery about almost a month and a half ago and my sister in Norway, who I hadn't spoken to in months decides to post on my facebook and say "you know mom is having surgery today, it would be nice if you give her a call". Mean while I was in the waiting room already and had just finished talking to my mother's anesthesiologist. You see...the way that my siblings think is that because I don't follow their religious beliefs I'm in-human in some way, so much that I would not even be there for my mother. They drive me crazy sometimes.

I only enjoy a close relationship with my brother. He and I agree in many ways when it comes to the beliefs of life, faith, spirituality and family. he is the only one I could say I trust aside from my mother. A mother will always be there no matter what. Though sometimes my mother is highly influenced by my father, but I guess I can cut her some slack...lol!

So what do you do when all the odds are against you? When your family is what I like to call the last resource to go to? Is that a shame? I think so. Blood is thicker than water and somehow people that are really not my blood (biologically) have become my family. I will go the extra mile for my family (non biological), but when it comes to my biological one, I can't say that I would "take the shirt off my back" for all of them. Actually, to be specific, I would do it for my mother, and my brother, but that's it. Wow....am I messed up?????

Discussion with my Co-worker

My co worker and I are discussing the issues of the gangs out in Long Island. The first gang that comes to mind is MS-13 just because we see many of them walking around the mall in which we work. I asked her where it originated. Some people say it originated in El Salvador and some say Guatemala. I really don't know, but it's very nerve racking. Noam Chomsky's globalization video mentioned how Clinton prevented or minimized globalization with his "gate keeper" approach. I don't remember hearing many stories about the MS-13 gang until I moved out to Long Island nearly 5 yrs ago. Now it seems that we have more and more adolescents joining this gang and they are American. They aren't from foreign countries. Their roots might be, but a lot are born here. How is Globalization positive in this aspect? People moving and coming in from everywhere, we just have not control over who sets foot in American soil.

We all heard about a shooting around last June in Timberline park in Brentwood. It just so happens that the stray bullet that hit that 13 yr old child is the son of a regular customer at my workplace. The kid was in the hospital for a month and a half and he is now on a wheel chair and lost sight from his left eye. He was very lucky. Doctors told my customer that they do not know how his son is alive. Apparently, he got hit by a stray bullet during a gang initiation ritual of some kids wanting to join the MS-13 gang. A couple of months later, a 35 yr old man was found dismembered and it was linked to a gang initiation ritual of the same gang. It just so happens that they caught the 3 men involved in the crime. When I looked at the channel 12 news (thank god for optimum cable), and saw the faces of the guilty men, I realized that the 4'-10" man, was the same guy who had taken my order in one of the food establishments at the mall I work in. I was sooooo scared to go to work. The thought of it just made my stomach knot. The man was a father and god knows how many children he left behind. To make matters worse, this gang initiation ritual was a result of the failed gang ritual in June of 2009 (you know the one in which the 13 yr old kid just lost his eyesight and ability to walk), so since they didn't kill their target initially they had to make sure death was really going to happen this time. Of course the perpetrators are all in jail, probably and I hope doing life in prison, but how do we keep this from happening? Is globalization, in terms of giving access to everyone, a bad thing? I would say in this aspect yes. How can this be stopped? I don't want it minimized. Just stopped. Do we really have to close our borders, or can the US come up with a legitimate way of making sure that it opens his doors to people who believe in improving life and believe that the future of our generation lies in what we are willing to do for the success of this generation.

globalization

Yesterday's class was very interesting to me. I took a look at the video she asked us to look up on you tube on "globalization" with Noam Chomsky. I found it very interesting because he mentioned how globalization can be good and bad depending on who is being affected. One simple fact is true, went you prevent people from moving across borders we are definitely limiting the positive effects of globalization. Of course, I'm not all in favor of letting anyone enter the United States. I think we should be given the opportunity to advance academically and economically, but offer something in return to the opportunity given. Many people enter the US and because this is a free country we forget that we need to first secure the future of the American people. I might be crazy, but I agree that before we let anyone into this country a thorough background check is necessary. The opportunity need not to be denied, but certain abilities and qualities should be taken into consideration. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.

On another note, in terms of what we discussed in class, I think we are all influenced by media in some manner. It could be TV, radio, magazines, advertisements, Internet or whatever. I used to allow my son to watch Spongebob Squarepants when he was around 3-4. He is soon to be Seven and after listening to a friend of mine and doing some research over the Internet, I decided to completely cut it out of my son's "life". Some of the episodes are absolutely harmless, and funny sometimes, but it could be very fresh. Besides, the fact that my son is kind of skipping the "girls are yucky" or "girls have cooties" stage is really getting on my nerves. He came home the other day from school and asked me how my date had gone. I answered very short and simple. I said "it went very well, James is very nice". My son responded with a "well, since you went on a date, I'm going to go on a date with Victoria Bove, because she asked me and she's in love with me". My jaw literally dropped!!!! I went through that "boys are gross" stage so why is my son ready to go out on a date??? It's cute now, but somehow I think soon there will be some trouble....

Lady Gaga...We discussed her in class and Madonna as well. I dont think that Madonna was nearly as crazy as Lady Gaga. Gaga might as well throw out her entire wardrobe and walk around naked. She loves the attention so why not get more. Drunk at a Yankees/Mets game, talking with one of the players, while she fondles herself dressed in underwear and fishnet stockings???? Seriously.....then they wonder why women get disrespected and are constantly sexualized in the media. I just witnessed a girl wearing a white blouse with a logo right on her breasts saying "for your entertainment". Now if a guy just walks by and comments on her shirt, either in a respectful or disrespectful manner, is it the guys fault???? All the women would say yes...but, did she provoke it? Hmmmmm.......

Money VS LOVE

Well I was feeling REALLY under the weather today. I think I ate something bad at a BBQ I went to( which is why I didn't attend class). But today as I watched the Tyra show a question popped in my mind. Do we really only marry for love? or is it for assets? I feel like there is a mixed message that our parents relay to us. Our parents always tell us to make sure you find someone that is " going somewhere" but what does that really mean? That translate to me is they better make money! On the Tyra show, little children were speaking on how they want to marry someone that has a lot of money and that that is the most important characteristic in someone. I find this truly sad that these children are taught this but the sad reality is this is how many people think. Is love as important now or is finaces more important. Now everyone always rates your significant other by status, appearance, and money. Audience members on the Tyra show was judging the mothers that told their children to only marry for money, but are they wrong? Since the society we live in holds the materialism on a high pedestal. Another social contradiction. We say to marry for love , but to make sure he/she can provide for me.

player?

So this is one question that I always think about. Why is it that when a boy, a man, the male gender shuffles between girls he's called a "player" which has come now to something positive. His guy friends thinks he's so cool and "pimpin" because he gets so many girls. However, on the other hand if a girl, woman or the female gender in general shuffles between guys, or has been with a lot of guys she is referred to as a "slut, whore?" The same guys that cheer on their guy friends for being playas, condescend a girl for being a slut.

Not that I agree with this concept from either sex. No matter who you are, you should'nt break another person's heart, or play with their feelings. But I just dont agree with girls being said negative things to and guys being encouraged to do whatever they feel like and being complimented for actually doing wrong things.

I beleive in equality like most women do. In this case, no matter who the action be from, its wrong. Just like girls are condescended and looked down upon for shuffling between guys, the male gender should be condescended and looked down opon for shuffling girls.

LADY GAGA

who is she? where did she come from? why is she the most popular pop artist of today? is it because she knows what the difference between good publicity and or any publicity is? or is it because her videos and music actually have a deep meaning behind everything?

Everyone has their own opinions, some people thing that her videos contain too much exposure and that is why she is so popular. However, other people like to think that her videos have a meaning behind it and she actually has great talent, I agree with the latter. There is always a lot of talk and conspiracy going on about Lady Gaga and her personal life. I feel that she expresses her thoughts to such questions and statements through her videos. For example, Lady Gaga has admitted to being bi-sexual and her "Poker Face" video actually tells about the time when she first realized she may be interested in girls. In an interview she claims that the "poker face" is actually the face she had in bed with her ex boyfriend when she realized she may be bi-sexual. And the telephone video and her chemistry with Beyonce in the video may have just been the way to say its okay to be Bi-sexual.

Later on there was a lot of conspiracy about Lady Gaga being a hermaphrodite. In Lady Gaga's "alejandro" video there are many people cross-dressed and this may be again one of Lady Gaga's messages. Although each video may be directed by a different person, I feel eachone has a meaning to it that lady gaga is trying to bring about, in the changing world of today. However, I do also agree that her dressing style, on stage performances may be done purposely to gain publicity, but somewhere deep down within the videos there lies good messages.

sex vs gender

In class today we were talking about what is the difference between sex and gender? According to me, sex is the biological difference: male and female. Gender on the other hand is the social differences that have been brought upon the two different sexes. For example, in the oldern days the male sex had to go out and earn money, where as the femal sex had to stay home; cook, clean and look after the children. This was the gender difference: male and female respectively.

I interpret these two as such because I feel "sex" is a very biological term, even when filling out forms and applications to jobs and colleges, the application always asks "sex" and not gender. I feel that gender is a term that society just came up with to differentiate the different roles that each sex must full fill.

Personally, I feel the whole concept of gender is wrong. There should'nt be differences in roles in society because of a persons sex. Why is it that even today in many countries no matter how capable, educated the wife is she is the one that has to give up her job, education whatever after marriage. Why is it that women are considered the weaker gender? And even today the salary a man gets is much higher than a woman with the same education and qualifications?

wow i forgot to post my collage

It has a picture of my grandmother, who I would say I am the most close to and my father, mother, and family back in haiti.

My family Project

This is my family project I still have to post the movie version. I learned a lot about my family history that I really never knew. I also got to see different sides of my family when I interviewed them about love. Its amazing how one family can have so many different views and opinions on the topic.

I have never seen any of these pictures before and have fell in love with them. My favorites are my grandfather holding my mother as a baby the day she was adopted, the army photo of my grandparents and the picture of my grandma in the field , she looks absolutely beautiful.

SLEEP

It is amazing how affected the human body can be without sleep. I have become so sad and miserable with the lack of sleep I have been getting. Between working all the time and going to school and dealing with being sick , I have no tiem to sleep and it really is the most important thing right now.

I wish I was like people that knew how to put their health first and just take a break, but I can't do that. I feel like I could go into hibernation mode right now and sleep for the rest of the summer with how I feel. Its not like I even see a light at the end of the tunnel where I can be like "just get through this then you can relax."

I'm working 3 jobs and I am taking the second summer session on top of this. Sometimes I want to quit everything and maybe join the circus maybe that would be easier. I just need to see some positive results of my hardwork soon or I am really going to lose itttttt.

True Life: Digital Drama

On TV the other night, there was a true life that related to how digital technologies are ruining two relationships. They showed two extremely different cases; one being a man that is constantly on his phone for work reasons and the other was a couple obsessed with their facebooks and blackberrys.

I felt bad for the girl that had the boyfriend that worked 100 hours a week. He literally was constantly on his phone when they went to dinner and acted like she was not even there. He was not trying to be rude, he was just putting work first. He even had to go as far as to see a therapist to help him change his habits.

On the other hand, the facebook couple was just pure comedic relief. The fact they fought about who wrote on their wall, who they added , locked phones with passwords, was just a joke. The girl would constantly say if he deleted his facebook they could be together and he refused. They would catch each other in lying, from a facebook comment, insane. Why even bother to be dating someone, I don't get it. I do not know how people let a networking site get in the way of everyday life. It should be something to keep in touch with friends, not a reason to believe you are cheating on your significant other.

Swallow your pride

It would not be a weekend for me with out something ridiculous happening. This weekend I had to play many different roles. I had to be a leader, a daughter, a doctor and a mother. My dad got extremely sick this weekend and when I came home from work he was home by himself shaking and freezing. I completely panicked but knew I had to stay calm for him.

I ran around getting him blankets, water and some medicine to temporarily calm him down. I took his temperature and saw he had a fever. I knew something was up and told him I was taking him to the hospital. This is where his pride stepped in. The man was clearly suffering but refused to go with me because he didn't want to have to pay, sit in the hospital and not be able to go to work. Regardless, I made him go , I did have to yell at him a bit though.

He is okay but it was definitely one of the scariest things I have ever experienced. I guess when you are younger you feel like your parents are invincible. That they don't get sick or sad, they just know how to make you feel bettter when you are. It was also strange being the one taking care of him. I know he is mad at me that I took him there but I said I'd rather him be mad at me than in danger.

After four days of work, 5 hours of sleep in total , and a weekend of craziness im exhausted! Before i go to sleep I want to say I am thankful for my father. I know it’s a little corny and this Hall mark holiday was created just for revenue for the economy but I still love my father. In the Haitian culture, and african-american for a matter of fact there seems to be a lack of fatherhood in our society. Usually there is many children but are raised by their mothers. But I can say my father is a great man that taught me how to value and appreciate a lot. One of the most loving people in the world . I would not say I am a daddy's girl but I can say I Love my dad

To sleep, a chance to dream, no more

Just got off a 15 hour shift. Have to be back at work in 9 hours. Very little money making occured. I'm that brand of tired where your body doesn't have any seratonin left to put you to sleep. I don't have much to write about, but that exemplifies something I think worth mentioning. The silencing of the proletariat through exhaustion. There will be no art created today. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I like seeing your posts. Great group of people, thanks for sharing

Fun

well then yesterday was an interesting day. I have came to the conclusion the simple things in life are the best. I went to a supposedly "exclusive" party last night and when I got there all I wanted to do is leave. My idea of fun is not just sitting around a beautiful house lounging. But no interaction all forthy people in this house and I only spoke to the people I came with. I did not enjoy that at all. Was I suppose to be awed by the beautiful chandiler or the great drinks. NOT INTeRESTED. I finally came to the conclusion that me and my friends could come back to my house and hang out. We all watched music videos sang and dance together while drinking some box wine and I had a great time. Its the simple things you cant forget.

ups & downs of retail

i agree 100% with tatiana that people are absolutely ridiculous sometimes. people make big deals out of things that are crazy. i have worked in retail for the past 7 years and more recently i have been more involved with guest service, mainly because i became a manager. the thing about retail, is that you never know what a day is going to bring. some days are great and you have nothing but positive experiences helping people. other days, are straight out of hell, and i find myself wanting to tell people to shut the #&%^ up because they are acting like assholes and making a scene out of nothing. Today, well yesterday, was one of those days. the store was so busy, we were on back-up at the checklanes almost the entire day. i was at guest service when a guest came up with a cooler and was making a stink that she wanted the sales price honored even though she doesn't have the rain check on her, apparently her husband had it. By the way, the stories people tell are priceless, and if you are one of those people who tell these stories don't bother because no one cares what you have to say. you have no importance in my life, and to be completely honest i don't care if you get what you want, so shut up. i gave the person the 4 dollars off of the item she wanted and then they still have an attitude with you. people need to be more polite. when was the last time you wanted to help a person who was a complete dick to you... that's right, never! just think of tat the next time you go shopping. and if you see someone yelling or making an ass of themselves feel free to step in and say something.

i guess i just needed to get this off my chest. retail can be a bigger bitch than the people who are shopping.

here is the movie project

my family movie project. this is also my 25th post on blogger. yayy :)

inkscape is a btch

i've been trying to upload my family picture montage thing online for over 4 hours now and inkscape crashes every time i open it. i can't even get just the pictures online because when i copy the group of pictures it doesn't open in any other program. even changing the file type only ends with error file corruption messages. i am going to continue to work on this tomorrow but i feel like its a lost cause. if nothing else i am putting a screenshot up to have something documenting my work.

sketchup project

i have been working on this sketchup house for days and days. what it started out as is much different from what it is now and i probably should have uploaded steps to how i got where i am, but i am proud of what i accomplished. i think it represents my style; which is modern but with a twist. i do enjoy some traditional elements but in a clean, streamlined fashion. Architecture was a passion of mine through high school and the beginning of my college career. i have moved on from that to the truly exciting world of business (i say that with as little sarcasm as possible). Design is something that i feel will have to be a part of my future. i don't know in what capacity, but merchandising intrigues me. i think i like to express myself through the use of objects like furniture, art in multiple forms merchandising, and other visual aspects because i don't really like expressing myself in other areas.

well here's what i have...

Family Montage

Heres a family montage of some pictures I managed to steal from my mother. I haven't seen these pictures in a while, and I 'm glad I got to take a look, some of them bring back some fond memories. There were some that I never saw before, like one of the pictures of my mother when she was younger.

These pictures are basically of me, my sister, mother, and father. We still all live close by, even though we're not in the same home. I like that picture of my mother alot (the top right-hand corner), and I always tell her thats one of my favorite pictures of her. I'm not sure how old she was in that picture, but it seems pretty young.

USA game disaster

Frustrated is an underestimate for how I felt while watching the USA game today. The fact that their win was taken away because of one blind referee is insane. Honestly, after that call was made, I feared the mans life. He is probably lucky it was against the USA team because Europeans would have followed him to the parking lot, they don't take soccer lightly.

It really is crazy that we trust a select few to call the shots of a game. At the end of the day they are only human and they make mistakes, but that can completely ruin an entire game. The best part was the Ref had to comment about the call he made. Sketchy?

I wish they were able to review calls like in Football because if we were able to do that with soccer, that goal would have counted for the United States. If this ends up knocking USA out of the Cup, there will be a lot of angry fans, myself included.

GAGA Concert

So for my birthday I got tickets to go see Lady Gaga. I started to cry like a little girl. Little pathetic but I think the woman is unbelievably talented and raw. She tells it like it is and really doesn't give a shit about what people think. She always knows how to stand out and do something crazy and at times raunchy but I dig it. I think because she truely has such a good voice shes not just a freak dancing around half naked. Girl knows she has talent.

I cannot wait to see what one of her shows will be like and I really can't wait to wear the most ridiculous outfit. I love the feeling of having no idea what to expect and I'm sure I'll be asking myself what the hell just happened when I leave the arena.

She really came into her own as an artist transforming from who she was performing in small clubs when she was a nobody. Her success is unbelievable and I'm sure even half of your parents have heard of her. I respect people that don't care what other people think. I feel that you only have one life to live and if you live it for others, than you really haven't lived at all.

Part Two of why it sucks!

sick of doctors

Throughout this month, I have only decided more how much I want to become a doctor. I have been from one doctor to the next and I feel it is so unpersonalized nowadays. I always feel like they are in a rush and either quick give you a prescription for a quick fix to get you out of the office, or send you to another office to another doctor.

I feel like between the secretaries at the desk, nurses and doctors themselves, show that they don't want to be there. I feel when I become a doctor, I will show that I love what I do. I love helping people and making people feel comfortable. I would make sure to take my time with each one of my patients and make them feel like they are the complete center of my attention.

Its so frustrating to have to go to an office, sit around for an extra hour later than your scheduled appointment, pay your copay and see the doctor for a total of 5 minutes. It just doesn't seem fair. The work it is taking to become a doctor is absolutely exhausting but I know that it will all pay off for me in the end because I will be doing what I want with my life.

Why bother?

I don't understand why people stay together in relationships that clearly are not working anymore. It frustrates me so much to see so many relationships struggle to work and they look miserable. At the end of the day, is it really worth it? I guess it's because I have learned a lot through the years. I was the person that I now hate. I stayed in a relationship for toooooooo long.

That's why I chose love as the central theme to my family project. No one in my family has ever been divorced, but no one is happy. I see so many unhealthy marriages in my family, that I do not understand the point of staying together.

In a way I am happy I was exposed to this because I refuse to ever do that to myself. It is such a waste of time, energy and emotional strain that could be avoided. Its funny because my own parents have been the perfect example of what I never want. I hate that finding a happy married couple is like finding a needle in a hay stack. Working at a pharmacy, I see a lot of older couples that come in that have been together over 50 years. It makes me so happy but at the same time saddens me that in today's society, that really is not realistic anymore,

Why my job is a joke ?!

my second vlog

Customer Craze

I am sick and tired off dumb customers! Working in customer service is the absolute worst. The employees and I always have to deal with angry customers who take their emotions out on us. I swear people when they come into a movie theater they loose brain cells because the most outrageous things happen. Today a man walked in screaming because our movie times were not posted outside. He said" Is this what the world is coming to". Really? I didn't know that movie times were that crucial to the world. It is actually rather entertaining watching people get worked up over something that is so small . I have gotten cursed at, food thrown at me and more but honestly hey atleast i have a job.

me & skittles

i've kind of always had an obsession with skittles and when i found the bag of CrAzY core skittles on clearance, i almost lost my shit. they are the best skittles ever made and i can say that cause i like me some skittles. if they go away that will be worse than when M&M discontinued the crunchy m&m's. those also were a fav of mine. well i think this ridiculous video of me sums up the rest.

p.s. taste the rainbow

NBA finals.

So last night was game 7; final game of the NBA finals Boston Celtics vs. L.A. Lakers. Maybe because I am not that much of a basketball fan, but I thought the whole thing was soo over hyped. I logged onto my facebook last night around 11:00 pm, when the game was at its prime, and I was receiving status updates like every second from the same people. Like common, seriously no need to basically comment on the game on facebook. If someone was that interested in the game, they can simply open the t.v. and watch it, and if not, just go on the website, watch it live or just watch the scoreboard live.

I understand how passionate people are about basketball, thats like me with baseball and soccer, but I would'nt update every time sweat drops off of Kobe Bryant's face my status. I dont have a problem with people being passionate about the game, what I had a problem was with people updating their status every minute; every time someone got the ball in the hoop and filling up my newsfeed and making my phone go crazy ( i receive text messaging updates from facebook ) The most interesting thing was the fight against celtic fans and lakers fan on every status. Everytime, one of the teams scored points, the opponent fans would make some comments, on how off the jump was, or how bad the defense was, some excuses.

I would just appreciate it if people would keep their passion for sports, off of facebook during games. Like if you are really interested in the game, get off facebook and actually pay attention to the game? And if people want to post their opinions, do it once like " GO LAKERS " or " GO CELTICS. " Is it really necessary to constantly update your status every changing moment of the game.
