As the title explains, I was inspired in writing this blog entry from the blog entry that was written before me about steriotypes on African Americans. I want to write some misconceptions on Indians. Many people beleive that Indians only work at gas stations, own 7-11's and are the people who answer the calls when you call Dell Support.
One time, my family and I went into a Diner to eat breakfast in a relatively white neighborhood. The waitress didnt greet us "good morning" or "how may I help you" like most service places. Instead the first thing the waitress said to my family was "I dont know much spanish but I will try to work with you guys." My family and I were taken aback by how racist someone could actually be. We werent offended by the fact that we are Indians and were called Spanish, but how someone can just assume by the color of our skin that we would'nt know English. In fact my family all work for big companies such as Thompson Inc, Bearing Point, Merillynch Bank Of America etc. Not just work for big companies but are directors and vice presidents for their own groups and projects in the companies.
Its sad to see how even in todays day and age, people still look down upon people of different skin colors. Just because someone isnt "white" doesnt mean they dont know english. In fact according to statistics, the country with the most English speakers is in India. Although there are many parts of India that are still orthodox, the cities of India have developed so much and that most of the outsourcing done by American Companies is in India.
