In my search for old photographs of my grandparents, it sparked a curiosity in my 92-year-old grandfather. I discussed with him why I needed the photos and that it was a project for a class I was taking. I sat with him and talked about each picture and it amazes me what a picture can do to someones memory. Considering my grandfather has recently started to lose touch with reality, it seemed to all come back to him looking through the photo albums. We spoke of his days growing up, marrying my grandmother, fighting in battles in WWII and even the day he adopted my mother.

While talking to him, I thought about the discussion that we shared in class about how times have changed and certain gender stereotypes have began to diminish. His life was like something you would read in a textbook, with the man going off to work and bringing home the money while my grandmother stayed at home with my mother, tending to the family and the household needs.

Hearing about how it was back then, makes me happy that I live in this day and age. I love to work and I work hard. I would never make it as a housewife, for I know I have more to offer to society. I am working to become a doctor and I love that I have the opportunities in front of me to reach my goal. Even though times have changed tremendously over the years, there are still those that think like my grandfather. I enjoy when people say that I don't look like a doctor, it makes me want to prove them wrong and get my white coat.
