After reading Christine's post about knowing people in high places, it reminded me of someone I know in the computer science program --some guy who only takes easy classes, and just does whats necessary to get by. Having a high average will get him interviews, but I happen to know that he isn't too good what he wants to do(he always says this) and his average is really misleading. People get "hook-ups" and such all the time, and they get by certain hurdles through friends or even lying but it will more than likely show when the shit hits the fan.
It's going to be really embarrassing when he gets a job and isn't good at it. I'm sure we all worked somewhere where we thought "How the hell did he get that position?" about someone. I'm not going to lie, there are times where I do the minimum out of laziness, but I know I'm going to get my mind "back in shape" before I start applying again, and I've been keeping myself busy with side projects. Then there are those people who got "hooked-up" through a friend, and learned the job on the fly. I can't resent that --if they're smart enough learn everything they need to know on the fly and actually be good at it, then I feel they deserve it.
