I was watching the MTV show called "16 and pregnant". It was my first time watching this and I felt so sad. A teenage girl was pregnant at the age of 16 and her boyfriend currently 16 as well, and she decided that she was giving the baby up for adoption. Now I admired the 16 years old becasue that has got to be a very hard decision to make. You could see it in her eyes as she was handing her baby away, but I felt even more sad for the 16 year old father. Why? Well, the girl made the decision to give up the baby for adoption without his consent and her reason was "it's my body and I'm not ready for this". I respect that she is mature enough (to a certain degree I guess) and decide that adoptice parents can offer her more than she can right now, but not only was her boyfriend against her decision, but so were her parents. Her parents reassured her constatntly that they would be there to support her and the baby and her boyfriend would cry to her and beg her to change her mind. When the baby was born, she did not even want to hold the baby and the new daddy was crying at her bedside beggiing her to reconsider. I felt so bad for him.
I do not know if their relationship will survive from here on out. Honestly, if a decision such as giving my child up for adoption was made without my consent, I don't think I would be able to continue the relationship. I almost feel as if this 16 year knew that he was young and inexperienced, but he was willing to learn what he needed to do.
I don't think anyone is prepared to be a parent. Does age matter? Maybe, but learning to be a parent is learned along the way just like we all learn how to hold our heads up, crawl, walk, and go potty. I don't know, but I think she shuld have consulted with her boyfriend as well.
