Presidency....

I was recently elected to be President of the Stony Brook Ballroom Dance Team, and I was overjoyed - at first...
I thought I would be getting settled in to the job immediately and enjoying myself and looking towards bettering the team! I was so excited and I really wanted to make the team something popular and fun for everyone involved. Little did I know that my role as president would hit MANY road blocks before I even officially became president.
My first road bump was the guy I ran against - Mark... he had been on E-board for a year as treasurer and of course he wanted to go up in the ranks and take on the role as president. I, however, am a freshman and therefore I obviously lack the experience that he has. Still, I won, and of course this displeased Mark's friends, who are future E-board members. Many people were trying to get re-elections done and so much drama happened that I felt like I was in high school again. It was all political junk that didn't and doesn't need to be happening! I thought this was a democracy - someone was voted in to office and people should just learn to accept it!
That didn't happen here though. After re-elections were vetoed by the current president, Mark then started proposing a new idea - Co-presidency! Now doesn't that sound like a compromise... I mean, why didn't Obama and McCain think of that? It could've pleased everyone! This just isn't plausible this late in the game, maybe had he come to me prior elections and said "why don't we run as co-presidents?" then I would've considered it. But at this point - that's off the table!
Of course, Mark still wanted a position somewhere, so we came up with - "Presidential Advisor." What a wonderful title! And that's all it really comes down to... Mark could've ran for treasurer again and he undoubtedly would've gotten it, but he wanted something with a better name!
So, now Mark is happy... but it doesn't ened there - Oh No! We still have some people who are affectionately referred to as "the alumni." These people were my biggest supporters throughout the elections, however they are now the people who simply hate the team... and I am stuck directly in the middle. I HAVE to work with the team, but I like working with the Alumni...
This is all just political BS and to be quite honest I'm sick of it! I don't want to deal with the team! I don't want to deal with the alumni! Unfortunately for me - I love the team's coach - and I could never let her down... so I guess I've made my bed and now I have to sleep in it... which basically - SUCKS!
So I'd like to thank everyone mentioned in this blog for giving me countless headaches, sleepless nights and the ability to produce more tears than I ever thought possible... it means a lot!
