Media as a Class
The media has a large part in portraying the jobs of men and women in professions. Media is always showing how one group of people work at one job and this creates an assumed association that a certain group of people only do certain jobs. For example, nurses are seen as women. We watch TV or movies and it is very rare that you see a male nurse. If you do, its a funny portrayal of them. We think of engineers and we think automatically that this is a guy's job. It is true to an extent. It's not that women aren't good at it, it's just women aren't seen as them. Most of the males are in this profession and are of this major in college. For some work men are built well to manage it so it is understandable in certain professions but not all. A lot of them men are out there doing construction jobs only because it requires a lot of strength and endurance that men are physically just built better. It just seems that the media has always shown a link between certain jobs and certain groups of people.
