One of the Generative Scripts that Professor Baldwin have us has a paragraph on Joe Keller and the “American Dream”. We have all heard this term many times and in different concepts. However, what actually is the American Dream? Does it even have one specific definition? I think that the idea of the American dream depends on the individual and the time period. However, I can say that the ultimate goal for this dream is to end up being successful. As long as one reaches that point where he/she feels like they have done everything is their will to achieve what the set out to do. If he/she is satisfied and lives a happy lifestyle they have fulfilled the dream.
The idea of the America Dream however, takes its own toll on the minds of the people. Joe Keller for example according to the article unintentionally killed his own son to reach the American Dream. The article mentions that the dram also takes control over our actions and then we, the people responsible have to deal with the consequences. This is where that idea of moral responsibility versus family responsibility comes in to play. Should a person do whatever it takes to have his dream come true and make his family reach the American Dream? Or should a person take every moral decision making encounter along his way to the American Dream into account? The end does not always justify the means. However when individuals do not realize this fact the dream can take a really bad turn and become a nightmare.
