Valentine's Day

Valentine ’s Day is very well addressed in society today. Hearts, candy, flowers, a special day dedicated to love. People like to celebrate and days like Valentine’s Day because it gives people a change to do something special for a day. There are many people who do not believe in such events and they have their reasons why they don’t. I was very interested in finding the main sources of Valentine ’s Day, like where it originated from and this is what I found. The holiday is named after St. Valentine and was established by Pope Gelasius I, although it was not initially linked with romance it was linked with romantic love in the high Middle Ages. Since then they day has been celebrated by showing affection to ones love.
In society today with advancing technology there are many people who use electronic ways to show their affection. For example, sending email, e-cards and e-flowers to his/her loved ones. Although, this method may seem easier, faster and more convenient, I do not think this holds the same meaning as it did when one would personally wish someone “Happy Valentine’s Day”. It just goes to show how much society has changed.
