As you are no doubt aware plastics are a major environmental concern and efforts to recycle them must be a top priority. Over 1 Billion plastic bags are given away each day for free it is a major problem and one that in many cases has not been combated as effectively and aggressively as it should. A simple policy that has been used to great effect in Europe is in charging the customer a fee per bag used. This goes to encourage the purchase of permanent bags and increases awareness of the damage that plastic bags can cause to the environment.
The damage that is being caused by plastic bags is serious and needs to be addressed. It is up to the major stores to lead the way in this pursuit to reduce the harmful effects that are taking place, Not only are the production costs of plastic bags vast but also they further require petroleum and natural gas in their production, both non-renewable resources that are incredibly detrimental environmental.
