Takeover

I think once you spend most of your time in place, it becomes your domain. I spend over 40 hours in The athletic center. Between the pool, weight room, locker room and study hall, I've come to know the building inside out. It has become a place of comfort and familiarity.

Today, there is a hs tournament going on inside the stadium. Families, wrestlers and hs students are wondering the building. At first it was rewarding to confidently let someone know where the bathrooms were and give them directions. But as I've been in study hall for a few hours, i feel like our closed constant community has been breached. There are kids everywhere.

As a freshman, its weird to identify that you can tell the high schoolers from the college students. They have an aura of immaturity and innocence within their world. Its hard to believe I represented that group of kids only a year ago.

I feel like I can relate this takeover to the Internet. You create your special place... facebook, twitter, my space, farmville and its familiar to you. The creation of the new google networking sight, aim and facebook chat are constant interferes to your attention. Viruses, hackers and malsoftware tear you apart. We can not identify the attackers as one type of group...as a soccer mom asking for a tour of the athlete only study hall has turned me off to 'my' environment.
