Ballet

So the Moscow Festival Ballet was in town last night an, being that I have no real life to speak of, I went and got some culture. Aside from being one of the handful of college age kids there that weren't ushering (everyone else was at least thirty years my senior or small and adorably dressed up trying to mimic the ballerinas movements out in the lobby), it was a pretty cool experience.

The story itself was cute, though altered from the original tale. Basically, guy and girl are in love. Guy, while waiting for Girl, sees another girl and flirts with her. Main Girl is understandably pissed and breaks up with him. Guy begs other girl's dad to meet her. Old Guy laughs and tells him to go away. Main Girl finds key Old Guy drops and trespasses with a bunch other friends. They find that the girl Main Guy was after is actually a doll. Old Guy comes back and agrees to help her get back at Main Guy. Main Guy comes in through window and Old Guy says the girl he likes is a doll, but he will do magic or something to bring the doll to life. Old Guy reveals the Main Girl, dressed up as the Doll, and they make fun of Main guy for about 45 minutes. Eventually MAin Girl gets bored and reveals herself, Main Guy realizes he was wrong and loved her all along, and they get married, which amounts to a hour reception filled with various dancing.

I had never been to a ballet before, so this was a new experience. I never thought I would enjoy watching people prance around and do things I wouldn't even begin to be capable of (standing en-point, ridiculous spins, wearing tutus, etc.), but it was actually pretty enjoyable. However, I do agree that, as so eloquently phrased by my friend; "I wish she hadn't married the asshat."
