"I never think of the future...

It comes soon enough." Those words by Albert Einstein may seem silly, but the genius has some good advice right there. I do believe that preparation for the future is a good thing, but at the end of the day, we should stop worrying about all the future tomorrows and start living today. No matter how hard we wish it wouldn't, time just keeps marching on, and passes all too quickly. When I think back to my childhood, I can remember the years going by but it didn't feel so fast. Now I feel like it was just New Years Eve '09, and I blinked and it's May. As I get older, the faster it seems to go. I wish that wasn't the case. Our lives are just so damn short, it's terrifying. I want to hold onto the time, live more in the present, and have a lot of tomorrows. Unfortunately, no one ever knows when her time is up. I'd hate to think I wasted time solely on school or solely on work, and postponed time with my family and friends because I thought they and I would always be there. I think we all need to get our priorities in order. Today. Not tomorrow.

Wrinkle in Time

When we were asked to take our old family photographs, I used my camera and even when using the correct settings, they came out very blurry. I was afraid to even present them, as the faces are hard to make out, and people could only get an idea for what they are, not see it clearly. I thought that that was a bad thing, but now, I realize that it is almost fitting. These photos are of people and events that came before me. They are a part of my structure, a part of my history and while I can't see them clearly, I can feel their effects. Looking back into my past is probably as blurry but rewarding as my ancestors who blurrily looked forward to their futures. Maybe they envisioned having grandchildren and great grandchildren. They probably couldn't make out my face either, but relished the idea of what could be. I can look back and relish the idea of what was, and now, it is my turn to look forward. So even though my photographs are blurry, I see more than ever.
Some of these pictures include my great grandparents, my grandparents as children, on their wedding day, uncles and even my father in Vietnam, my parents on their wedding day, and even the photograph of my twin sister and my birthday. My family history is not unlike any other American family's. We've sent young men to war, and thankfully, they came back. We've had many weddings, children, and laughter. It may be typical, but it's special to me.

Changes

I'm home for spring break and seeing all of my high school friends is an odd experience. I hate to sound cliche and note that they have changed but well, they've changed. I think I have too in so many ways since high school, but it's kind of depressing to realize it. What could be worse than sitting with your former best friends, the people you used to share everything with, and now have nothing to mention but memories.? It's a bad feeling but I guess that is part of life. We have to change and grow and evolve. I am glad I did, as I would hate to forever be the person that I was in high school. I wasn't that different, but my focus on school and goals and the future have increased and I am glad.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Remember when you were a little kid and you thought anything was possible? If you were asked what you wanted to be as an adult, and you said "astronaut" or "fireman" or "famous actress" you believed wholeheartedly that you would be one day. Kids have such optimism that doubt never enters their mind. I wish we could be like that now, but I guess age and experience, along with failures along the way take away that hope and we settle for what we think we can accomplish, not what we hope to. It's sad, really.

Life is a Mystery

We do not know what the future holds for us and where or who we will be with ten years from now. People have so many dreams that they want to achieve but are not aware of what will happen tomorrow. That to me is a scary thought. I am one of those people who like to plan my life and try to live accordingly, it has never work but it gives me a goal to reach at. I feel like if one sets a goal in like they can try hard to achieve it. But what should we do right now? I’m not sure if I should be wasting my time studying so much, doing pre medicine and economics when I am not even sure of what I will be tomorrow. Life is a mystery that we uncover one day at a time.
The fact that life is a mystery changes everything from every aspect of life. We do not know what tomorrow will bring, like where will we be and who are we going to be with? For those of us that are in a relationship are we going to be with the same person five years from now? If I had to answer that question I would honestly say that I do not know we are only aware what has happened in the past to learn from to live better tomorrow. We should all live our lives one day at a time taking advantage of every day, every second, every moment and create memories we can cherish forever.
