Second Life

Now that the semester is over, I don't think I will be engaging in Second Life anymore. All in all, it was rather creepy in my estimation. I didn't understand what the purpose of it was really. I can understand wanting to go by someone different for a day but this seems a little sad. We all do need an escape I guess, so maybe I am being judgmental and for that I apologize. I believe in the phrase "to each his own" so I know that Second Life is valuable to a lot of people. I personally don't appreciate it or its service, but I know a lot of people do. To those who will continue, have fun, but me, I am done.

Virtual Lie

So I tried second life again. Really, the whole damn thing makes me nervous, but I figured another try wouldn't hurt. I didn't take any pictures, but I did interact.

It is probably worth mentioning I did a gender swap. My name is Gregory Catronis, and I look exactly as the template spit me out as. I didn't change, but I've somehow acquired a house, a car, and a lot of people avatar things as friends. I'm not good at this whole social thing, so I just rolled with it.

Sure I like basketball.
I'll go to Paris with you.
Of course I'm gay.
I'd love to dance.
I'm a student
I'd love nothing more than to hear about your cats.

I wonder if everyone, if anyone knows just how much I'm lying. Hell, I have no idea if they're lying either. That girl could be some guy from Nebraska, the vampire from Florida, that dwarf a giant, the skinny rail creature an offie worker who hates his job. I'd never know. Second life provides you with limited oprounities to shape whatever or whoever you are into what you want to be. Hence the name, I suppose. Second life. Redoing the one you have online, making it better or worse or just more interesting.

Kind of wild to think about.

Second Life

I'm still trying to get the hang of Second Life.. it's pretty confusing and it takes forever to load the graphics to change my appearance but here are some screen shots for now.

Second Life

Tried to look for some Fibonacci numbers, but when I came across a dragon flying around I gave up. I understand second life is about people creating places and people around who they want to be in a digital world, but personally I didn't get hooked.

Second Life

I still haven't a clue what the point of this is. I looked around but no one seemed to want to talk to me. Eh.

The frustation of Second Life...

So I recently got a Second Life account for class, and I was sort of excited about it, because I had heard of it and I was curious as to what it would be like. I heard it was similar to the SIMS and I used to love playing the SIMS when I was younger. So I made my avatar and everything, and I made myself a guy, which was my favorite part. I then started to try and play the game and it seriously slowed my computer down! I was getting soo mad! I would try to walk around and teleport to places and it would take forever for the page to load, and it was slowing down the other things I had open on my computer that I was unable to do anything else!

Once I got over the fact that my computer was destined to work at the pace of a snail while I had Second Life open, I just decided to attempt to work out how the game works. So, I started talking to other avatars and teleporting to "hot spots" and basically just checking things. I eventually ended up at this one jazz place, and so may people were there, but I just couldnt deal with it. Random people were talking to me, and following me around and it just got annoying. To put it simply - I really don't like playing Second Life and I'm happy about that, because if I actually liked it, it would only be one more thing that will prevent me from doing the work I should be doing.
