I think I have a better understanding of what a grant actually is now. I really did not have any idea what one was in the first place. Ok, now I understand what we are writing. In class we spoke about the women in film grant and started talking about feminist scholars and changes in women. I can not say that I really know that much about feminism. The only feminist writer that I really know about is Lauren Mulvey and she has an extremely outlandish view of what the cinema should be and I certainly do not have the same feelings towards films as she does.
I do not think that I should apply for a grant about something I do not have that strong feelings about. It is probably because I did grow with my parents having a pretty equal relationship it was never really anything that interested me. I think that some women are career driven and some women prefer to stay home, and Hey if you can afford to not have to work in this economy, is that really so bad? Growing up my father had a successful printing business and my mother was just starting out to be a nurse. Eventually, times changed and people could print from their own computers so my dad's printing company is no longer worth what it once was. So, after years of fighting the inevitable my dad sold his company and bought a Fed Ex route with the money. And yes the pay is not as great as it was when he had his own business but he certainly has never been happier. Now my mom is the director of nursing at a hospital and is the new bread winner of the family. I do not think it matters who makes more or works more so that is why I can not see my self really making a documentary on the changing role of women because I think it is just circumstantial.
