I feel as though college students these days have a bit more on their plate then they would like to these days. Not too many people I know can afford to go to college and focus on studying without having to worry about one of the biggest things that I think take away from education which is they have to have a job. I have no idea how people can afford to go to college and not work. I have worked since I was 15 and I still have no money! Gas, books, and life is just way too expensive.
Last year after Thanksgiving I quit a job that I had since I was a junior in high school. I did not work the rest of the school year and took an unpaid internship in the city over the summer and did not have a paying job again until August. It was great not having a job I actually did have the time to focus the amount of time and energy I desired into school but this is because I did not have a job. I had saved up for 5 years not to work for almost one. Was it worth it? Yes definitely I wish I could not work right now and just focus on school. But the fact of the matter is that without working I cannot afford to get to school. So I can not focus my desired 20% on school which would be ideal, but unfortunately much of that time is dedicated to work. I waitress and it is not a relaxing job so after it is over I just want to rest leaving me little time for school work. What I really need is just more time in the day.
