Scopophilia

Scopophilia is an interesting concept in human nature. And I don't mean just looking at sexual acts or objects, I mean the general love of looking at people, with or without their knowledge. We like to observe people. How they act, dress, present themselves are all very important parts of our nature. For example, why do people observe the person they are attracted to? Why do they feel the need to look at them and note every action and gesture? I think it is because we as a culture take great pleasure in making observations about other people. How do we tell that we know someone? We know all their quirks, the way they like to do things.
I think that during our performances in front of Staller there was a lot of scopophilia going around. A lot of people stopped to look at what we were doing, made weird faces, showing they were analyzing our actions. Even my roommate came with her boyfriend and was observing with great curiosity. My conclusion is, despite our love of privacy and secrecy, all of us are just a little scopophilic. We all have a little of voyeurism in us.

Stony Brook Weekends

I go home often on the weekends but this weekend I decided to stay and that was a mistake. It is a real ghost town here on the weekends. I'm here calling my friends to hang out and all of them went home. Just like Chris and Ian said its a catch 22 because it is boring because no one is here but no one stays because it is boring. I don't even know what could change this. The only time I stay here on campus is if there is an event i want to go to on the weekend or if I'm on weekend duty. So if there are more fun events on the weekend I guess more people would stay including me. But as of now I wish I was home.

Midterms

Studying for midterms is so stressful. I'm going to have three midterms in the span of two days. This is ridiculous. I feel like if so much material was not covered the exams would not be as bad. For biology each lecture we have has about 20 to 30 slides and the class is three times a week. So that about 90 lecture slides to review each week and the professor wants us to readthe textbook chapters he assigns. There is usually a chapter or two a day. Even if someone thinks this is not a lot of work, they are forgetting this is not my only class. I am taking four other classes that require reading chapters, homework, webwork, and then find time to study for midterms. It is overwhelming and I can't wait till the summer when I don't ahve to think about work. I used to think about taking summer classes but the stress I have during the semester makes me drop the whole idea

2 RIDE

For anyone who doesn't know what is 2 RIDE it is a ride service for students on campus during the night hours. It is supposed to before our safety because it is not safe to walk al the way from west apartments to the Union is your by yourself. But I recently found out that 2 RIDE does not provide rides for men which is a little weird to me. I want to know why this campus wide service is sexist. Is it because men are able to walk late at night and women are not. That just doesn't make any sense to me. They also do not provide rides to any commuters. I just feel like if you are going to provide a service for the whole campus it should be open to all students wether your a female, male, or a commuter.
