THE TANK: Final Assessment

To be totally honest, I was actually impressed.

When I was riding in, I honestly thought we were going to end up in some hole-in-the-wall dive bar. I thought it was going to be cramped and disgusting, possibly in some alley somewhere. But I was pleasantly surprised to find myself in a legitimate theater. Can't say I was suspecting it.

As for the turnout - well that was better than expected too. We had a pretty good gig, all things considered, even though we wouldn't have exactly been able to stuff the 2000+ people we bombarded. And we even got a solider to talk to. Briefly. But it's better than I thought it was going to be.

The performances were actually really great to watch. Some were funny, some were serious - the music ones were all great. The adaptations to the scripts were really interesting too : mashups have a sort of ring to them. MSP Jitter was a nice touch, but the techno kind of bored into my brain after a while. The films were all pretty cool too; the last couple especially- if only because I hadn't seen them before.

All in all, it was a pretty good show. It wasn't what I was expecting, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The TANK: Video 6

One last one. The flute player this time. The background image, once again, came out awfully. But still cool.

THE TANK: Video 5

Yes, more violin. The tail end of the reading / performance thing.

The TANK: Video 4

Moar Violin + MSP. Less than a minute this time.

THE TANK: Video 3

Violin + MSP grooving. Again the MSP is difficult but I'm sure you remember the coolness of it. This one is the longest I think. About a minute.

The TANK: Video 2

MSP grooving. Can't really see the MSP but it's there.

The TANK: Video 1

Gonna upload a handful of theses... Mostly the violin and Flute because the one of the entire performance was like 1 minutes and youtube hates me. You get 1 minute or so snippits, then.

Here's one of the warmup - Baldwin grooves in the background.

Politics and Theater

At The Tank, I was able to combine two of my favorite topics into one event. I love learning about politics, war, and history and I am also a theater lover. What makes good drama is it's ability to reflect real human life and tragedy. I think war is obviously one of mankind's inevitable and unavoidable ills which many plays touch upon greatly. They say that those who don't learn history are destined to repeat it. I think most of us have learned history lessons many times, but there is something to be said about the experience of witnessing it. If we were able to act out the bloodshed and losses in a safe way, through theater, we could show just how awful war can be without actually hurting anyone. Theater is reflective of life, and I think that many of the videos at The Tank illustrated the sacrifices so many have made.

The tank

Well the final day was quite interesting. The place was something I didn't expect. It had a very theatrical atmosphere and I know it was one but one of those old theaters where people used to practice types. I can see a movie scene in one of these types of stages. My partner, Fedora and I showed our video despite our wonderful acting skills, I think I was pretty content with our work. We also got a chance to read off some Shakespeare plays. The concept of that was quite interesting with how we mixed all the plays and made it into one big play that had a whole new meaning. I actually enjoyed the experience an the class itself. It wasn't something I expected. It's nice having a class that has no relation whatsoever with science or math. You really do get the chance to learn first hand with such great experiences. The professor was also very encouraging and we actually spoke to a soldier so it was an overall memorable experience and a memorable class.

Professor Baldwin

"Humanoid Hour, Humanoids, Humanoids. Eyes on me, gang. Oh, Abby's here, now we can start. You get the A for the day!" The semester is over, and as trying as it may have been sometimes, I don't think I am alone in saying that I am going to miss this class. It was so unique, and Professor Baldwin was about as original as they come. I think we learned a lot about media and life in general, albeit from unconventional means. It was a fun way to end the year, with our presentations at The Tank, and I think we had all bonded by this time, so we were able to really cheer each other on. We all put out great work, and had a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone who wanted to have an unorthodox learning experience, and for all of those that like Pabst Blue Ribbon ;).

The Tank recap

Yesterday at The Tank, we saw a lot of different projects revolving around war. In addition, several students took scripts of plays about war, and mashed them all together. Overall, I think the concept of the day, as reitorated by Barbara Olsen, was that war has not changed much at all in the past 2500 years. Our technology has changed, certainly, but overall, the underlying causes and results have stayed pretty consistent throughout time. It is certainly something to think about next time we pride ourselves for being so far advanced from ancient civilization.

THE TANK

Yesterday was the day! The day we have been anticipating all semester! I'd have to say, it was pretty fun. I loved seeing all of our classmates work, and those of Professor Baldwin's other classes. It was a relaxed atmosphere, and it was fun to just sit back and watch our work. It was fulfilling and just a great time. I met some new people also, and had a great day in the city. A more thorough recap is to come, so stay tuned!

The Tank

The final at the tank yesterday was pretty awesome. It was unlike any final I've ever had and all of my friends were shocked when I told them I had a final in the city. I liked seeing everyone's videos and performances. I'm glad we got to talk to a soldier in Texas and hear his perspective on war. I can't believe the semester is over already!
