21!
This weekend, I turned 21 years old. That means that I am now able to enjoy every aspect of adulthood in this country completely legally. I didn't go too crazy on my first night of responsible drinking, but then again, I've never been a big drinker anyway. I think the reason that people our age and younger tend to binge drink is because our culture glamorizes it. It is forbidden until we hit the age of 21, and everyone likes to do something "bad" once in awhile. I certainly do not suggest we start handing Buds to babies or anything like that, but if the legal age was at a more reasonable 18, then perhaps the binge drinking would cease or at least lessen greatly. The thrill is gone by the time we are able to do so under the law, and if we are able to die for our country or be tried as an adult at that age, then certainly we should be able to enjoy a drink now and then. This isn't groundbreaking on any level, but definitely something to think about.
