Going to War

my grandfather before his departure for war, with his mother on the left and aunt on the right. His warship was attacked in the pacific, but as it was going down, the enemy surrendered. My grandfather returned shortly after. Returning home, he managed to bring a samurai sword and Japanese rifle with bayonet. The only story he freely told of the war was taking the subway from coney island to White Planes in his uniform with the rifle on his lap. He always chuckled at what the modern reaction would be while transporting a weapon through the city.
