Whats the stigma with Americans and not traveling? I've been at Stony Brook four years, and have had the opportunity to meet people from around the world. I feel like there is a preconceived notion that Americans wont, and or don't want to see the world. Is it because we're comfortable here? Are we afraid? Is it a money issue? If I could, I would travel around the world 1000 times over, but unfortunately finances and student loans aren't going to let that happen for awhile. I could be completely wrong, but compared to the people I've met in my four years, Americans haven't even left their own backyard.
I've attempted to travel, and the people who know me well understand why it never happened, but until I do travel the world, I am and will be the typical American who has barely left Long Island... Oh and going to your timeshare or a cruise in the Caribbean doesnt count! I'm talking Europe! Asia! Oceania! Africa! If you have the money, please do yourself the favor and see the beautiful planet we call home.
