This is not high school...grow up

College is a time where people begin to discover who they really are and possibly determine what you will be doing for the rest of your life. In some ways it can be a competitive environment depending on the career path you choose. However, there are certain people that take this competitive nature to the extreme. For some reason there are students who feel like they are in a competition with everyone, even those who aren't in their field. For example, a friend of a friend of mine has a bad habit of worrying about everyone elses academic success. This person feels threatened whenever they feel someone is getting ahead of them in any circumstance, whether it be academic or social. When you have a friend, they want to know where you met that friend, and how come they don't know that friend. This is not the time or place for this childish behavior. There is no popularity contest in college. Yes it is good to be an over achiever, but it is not good to be a sore loser and wish failure upon others. Good things will never come your way if your only way of succeeding is to bring down others. In the end we will all reach our personal goals regardless of what everyone else is doing.
