Researched Argument
Today I am starting a Reearched Argument assignment for WRT 102, and I have no idea what to write about. Being a researched argument, it is expected that I will pick out a modern day controversial topic and take a stand. Most kids will pick something they are interested in, like animals and pick a related topic like animal control or animal abuse, guns and gun rights. I like guitars. Are there any conteroversial issues involving guitars? Probably not. How about surfing or snowboarding? Not really. So I may end up picking a topic and pretending I care about the position I have taken. One thing I know I could write about is marijuana legalization, but I don't want to touch that with a 40 foot pole. Ill look around for something interesting that maybe has happened in the past few days and write the first few things I think of. Wish me luck!

Marijuana definitely has potential to be written about if you take it from a sociological and psychological prospective. An interesting show on the history channel displayed how it was outlawed on the basis of racism. The U.S mainly made it illegal in order to force Mexicans out of the U.S and keep them from taking up jobs and space. Psychologists have also been partaking in many studies which prove that its medicinal uses are beneficial for many disorders such as anxiety where most meds they prescribe for it are highly addictive. I know it's a riskay topic to touch upon, but you can really learn a lot and its much better than picking a topic you could care less about. You should run it by the teacher and get a feel from their reaction, if they respond negatively they're just ignorant and close minded.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that is why it was outlawed! I never knew there was that much to it. Thanks for the tips!
