Irish drinking culture

The Irish have got this awful reputation for being excessive drinkers. They think of us as the drunken irish and have a stereotypical view of us drinking a lot. The irish try to defend themselves by saying they get this name due to the fact the irish produce the possibly the best stout or whiskey in the world. But as a pure bred Irish girl who has experienced the culture and the people, college life in particular, i can confirm our renowned drinking name is quite accurate (Me of course being excluded from this image)
After attending University of Limerick I soon realized how we got our name. One particular event that exemplifies our drinking culture is RAG week in colleges across the country. This week is a fundraiser for charities in ireland. While the intentions are good, the means of raising the money are not so good. Students literally drink themselves into the ground. Some drink so hard during the day, they actually drink themselves sober, and are ready then to face a night of more. They work their little asses off to save enough money that will buy them drink every single day and night of the week. Everyone skips classes during the week just so they can go do activities that all involve drink, like who can drink a yard of beer or who can compete in the drunken raft race along the college river. It is all quite hilarious to be honest but in a way you do start to question the lives of those drunken messes. They are simply wasting their lives for times they will not even remember because they will get so hammered. After coming over here I also realized how bad our drinking culture is. We are very much binge drinkers where as people over here are much more reserved when it comes to drinking. I guess though that all has to do with he fact the drinking over here is 21 whereas at home it's 13, sorry I mean 18!!!! So i guess they are more mature. But saying all that I came across two guys at a party last weekend that were fairly bad. I decided to take a short video of them because they sort of portray for me what students are really like in Ireland. After the video I realized OH MY GOD those are the two guys I sit beside in this class, ha such a small world isn't it!! Hope ye enjoy guys
