GRE

I’m currently in the process of booking my GRE and it does annoy me somewhat as to why this is necessary at all. I appreciate it is often difficult to choose between applicants for Graduate School, but why after 4 years of pursuing a qualification does one need to undertake a completely contrasting examination that weights heavily on their admission.
The test (as admitted by the test makers) is less a good measure of student’s talents than their ability to learn the skills and specific tricks in taking the GRE itself. Surely the majority of Graduate Schools as they do in Europe can access a student based on the multiple years of education and assessment they have undergone throughout their academic careers without the need of a further seemingly highly irrelevant standardized test.
